Job description

Position: Food Services Coordinator

Department: Operations

Reports to: Director of Operations

Boys and Girls Country serves boys and girls aged five to eighteen and young adults in our College and Career program. Boys and Girls Country is located 35 miles northwest of Houston. www.boysandgirlscountry.org

Position Summary

The Food Services Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the Distribution Center operation, care of the Community Life Building (CLB) and Production Kitchen, and facilitating functions in the Banquet Hall for Boys and Girls Country.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that quality food service is provided for staff and residents at Boys and Girls Country.
  • Responsible for efficient and effective Distribution Center operations including flexible shopping hours, time, and cost effective items for menus and consistently friendly service.
  • Responsible for requisitioning food supplies (including processed meats) and other merchandise necessary for meeting the needs of the food program.
  • Develop programs and system to train and give guidance to our children during the Summer Apprentice Program according to needs.
  • Exercise cost control in the area of food purchases and food service in order to perform below budget quarterly.
  • Keep accurate and legible records of distribution of all food items in the Distribution Center.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and other household items for the cottages and keep accurate and legible records of their distribution.
  • Responsible for maintaining the appearance, organization, and cleanliness of the Distribution Center in compliance with the Harris County Health Department, USDA, The Houston Food Bank regulations, and the standards of Boys and Girls Country.
  • Work cooperatively with the Director of Operations and the Development Department to receive, document, and acknowledge food donations within 24-48 hours.
  • Coordinate and schedule food donation pick-ups, as needed.
  • Responsible for end-of-month inventory and proper storage of all food items for the Distribution Center.
  • Responsible for food preparation for special events, Summer Program lunch service, the cleanliness of the kitchen, and maintaining the Community Life Building
  • Responsible for set-up and clean-up for special activities/events in the Community Life Building according to need or assignment.
  • Responsible for completion of checklist for each activity/event at set-up and breakdown.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations, including, but not limited to:
    • Communicating with other team members who will be impacted by decisions made.
    • Actively supporting other team members in their roles.
    • Assisting other team members in critical situations, when requested.
  • Responsible for management and organization of the clothing closet and Home goods storage areas in Operations.


Teamwork

  • Support other members of the Operations team in their roles.
  • Provide skills, trades, or labor on any given task.
  • Assist with the student work program to help teach kids new skills.


Qualifications

  • Must be cleared through a criminal background and FBI finger print investigation.
  • Must be cleared through a drug test panel.
  • Must hold a certificate of food safety or be willing to acquire one. (I.e. Serve Safe certificate)
  • All staff who have contact with students must be tested for tuberculosis before the staff is assigned a responsibility to care for students
  • Must attend Boys and Girls Country orientation and pre-service training.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Able to lift 40 to 50 pounds.
