Job description

The purpose of the Distributor Sales Representative - Outside position is to sell food products and supplies to food service establishments in order to meet and exceed sales goals.  This position will require you to use your own vehicle to travel to customer’s places of business in assigned territories to ensure food products and supplies are adequately maintained.  This position also requires you to compile a list of prospective customers for use as sales leads based on research from newspapers, business directories and other sources.  Each DSR is accountable for organizing and supervising his or her own daily activities and is responsible for performing daily sales tasks to ensure optimal sales performance and goal expectations are met.  Sales Territory for this position is located in Farmington, NM.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine visits to customer sites to ensure purchasing levels are adequate for existing products
  • Share information about additional products with customers to optimize sales
  • Competently discuss any outstanding issues with the customer to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Research newspapers, business directories and other sources for potential client leads
  • Perform networking activities to obtain referrals
  • Make calls to potential customers to expand the customer base within assigned territory
  • Complete required administrative functions to ensure sales data and percentages are accurate
  • Perform collection duties to ensure customer accounts are current

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related business field preferred or equivalent sales experience.
  • Must have at least three years of recent foodservice sales experience selling to restaurants for a major food service distributor.
  • Our sales positions require that you drive your vehicle within a designated sales territory therefore, you must not have more than three driving violations or a DUI conviction within the last three years to be considered.  You must also be able to meet our automobile insurance requirements.
  • Good computer skills, with the ability to use standard Microsoft Office applications to include Word and Excel
  • Ability to learn and use relevant internal applications
  • Must be able to calculate figures and amounts as they pertain to sales, commissions, discounts and volume
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills required and must be able to work well with others
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Good time-management skills with the ability to re-prioritize as needed
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and negotiating skills
  • Customer focused
  • Enthusiastic self-starter with a strong work ethic
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License issued for the state in which you would be working.
