Position Summary
The Assistant General Manager supports the General Manager in leading daily dispensary operations and developing a high-performing retail team. This position is responsible for driving sales performance, delivering exceptional patient experiences, maintaining operational standards, and ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
The Assistant General Manager serves as a key leader within the dispensary, coaching and developing employees, supporting business objectives, creating product awareness, and fostering patient loyalty. The ideal candidate is an experienced retail leader with strong sales, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills who is passionate about delivering exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver an exceptional patient experience by maintaining a welcoming, professional, and service-oriented dispensary environment.
  • Lead by example in greeting and assisting every patient while maintaining high standards of customer service and product knowledge.
  • Assist the General Manager with organizing, planning, and implementing operational strategies and business initiatives.
  • Supervise, coach, train, and develop dispensary employees to achieve individual and store performance objectives.
  • Communicate expectations clearly and provide ongoing feedback, recognition, and performance coaching.
  • Assist with employee scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing levels and achievement of business objectives.
  • Monitor weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and operational goals and track progress toward established targets.
  • Coordinate daily retail operations, including sales processes, ordering, payments, inventory, merchandising, and overall store execution.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional dispensary environment.
  • Motivate employees to perform at their highest level while promoting teamwork, accountability, and employee engagement.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of the company's product portfolio, medical cannabis benefits, and applicable patient education resources.
  • Provide patients with appropriate product information and education while utilizing available resources to understand their needs.
  • Document relevant patient interactions and follow up on customer concerns requiring additional research or resolution.
  • Identify opportunities for sales development and recommend training programs and techniques to improve team performance.
  • Support product launches, promotions, company programs, and other retail initiatives.
  • Execute merchandising standards and visual guidelines while ensuring products and displays are properly maintained.
  • Ensure inventory and merchandise are maintained in excellent condition and presented appropriately.
  • Maintain strict adherence to company policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Communicate operational issues and business updates to the General Manager, Director of Retail Operations, and/or Customer Service Manager.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, collaborative, and professional workplace culture.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience as a Retail Assistant Manager, Assistant General Manager, or comparable leadership role.
  • At least two years of sales experience in a retail environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, motivate, and develop employees.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to work with tablets, laptops, desktops, and standard office equipment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Social Work, or a related field is preferred; equivalent professional experience may be considered.

Supervisory Responsibilities
The Assistant General Manager supports the management of all dispensary employees and provides day-to-day leadership, coaching, direction, and accountability to team members.
Work Environment
This position operates primarily within a professional retail and office environment. The role requires regular use of computers, phones, tablets, and other standard office equipment, as well as frequent interaction with patients, employees, and management.
Physical Requirements
The position requires the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; stand and walk for extended periods; use hands to handle objects, equipment, and controls; reach with hands and arms; and work on computers, tablets, and other electronic devices for extended periods.
The employee may occasionally be required to lift or move moderate amounts of weight, generally less than 25 pounds. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the position.
Schedule & Availability
This position may require extended hours, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts based on business needs and operational requirements.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during business hours. Occasional out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
