Job description

Community Options, Inc. is a national non-profit agency providing services to individuals with disabilities in 12 states.

We are seeking a Part-Time Floral Designer to work out of our Princeton, NJ location. The Floral Designer creates quality flower arrangements, bouquets, wreaths, terrariums, and other items. This person will deliver a high-level of customer service to customers. Responsibilities may include answering phones, taking orders, data entry, inventory management, helping with deliveries, light shop maintenance, and customer research. 

Starting pay is $17.00/ per hour 

Responsibilities

  • Consult with clients on desired arrangements including design, price, and delivery details
  • Assist with planning arrangements according to client's requirements
  • Develop new floral creations utilizing knowledge of design and properties of raw materials
  • Maintain inventory including watering, cutting, conditioning, and cleaning plants and flowers
  • Create arrangements, bouquets, wreaths, terrariums, and other items
  • Inform customers about the care, maintenance, and handling of various items
  • Decorate venues and event spaces
  • Create and change in-store and window displays, designs, and looks to enhance the shop’s image
  • Trim material and arrange bouquets, wreaths, terrariums, and other items using trimmers, shapers, wire, pins, floral tape, foam, and other materials as needed
  • Perform office and retail service duties such as serving customers, answering telephones, selling giftware items and receiving payment as needed
  • Perform general cleaning duties in the store to ensure the shop is clean and tidy as needed
  • Unpack stock as it comes into the shop as needed
  • Employees must cooperate with the licensee and department staff in any inspection, inquiry or investigation
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned

Minimum Requirements 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must willing to work several Saturdays a month 
  • Must be able to run a POS system, design, assist customers, experienced in party work, funerals, etc. 
  • Five years of experience working in a flower shop
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Able to use trimmers, shapers, wire, pins, floral tape, foam, and other materials as needed
  • Ability to handle cash and use a cash register
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with other management staff, employees, and the general public
  • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Wide range of floral arrangement knowledge; daily work orders, wire-services, funerals, weddings, etc.

Working Conditions

  • Overtime required as necessary
  • Flexible schedule as determined by Managing Director
  • Frequent lifting, stretching, and other physical exertion may be required
  • May be required to lift or move 25+ pounds
  • May be required to travel utilizing own vehicle or a company vehicle
  • May be exposed to various medical conditions and communicable diseases
