About the RoleThe Toolmaker IV is responsible for the fabrication, modification, and inspection of precision tools, fixtures, and components. This role involves performing advanced equipment setup and maintenance, using expert precision measurement tools, fabricating fixtures, and adhering to shop safety and best practices. The Toolmaker IV will also lead the development and implementation of advanced measurement and tooling strategies, provide technical leadership, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
In this role, you will fabricate and assemble jigs, fixtures, and tooling to precise specifications while maintaining a clean and organized work area. You will follow safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as you read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints, including GD&T principles. Additionally, you will maintain and repair tooling to ensure it meets quality and performance standards, participate in continuous improvement initiatives, and contribute to process optimization. You will document work performed and maintain accurate records of tooling maintenance and repairs, collaborating with engineering and production teams to ensure tooling meets quality and performance standards. Furthermore, you will train and mentor junior Toolmakers and apprentices, lead and implement 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness programs, and provide technical guidance and support to the team on complex tooling issues. You will develop and implement best practices for tooling processes and procedures, lead complex laser tracker and toolmaking projects, and provide expert technical support to engineering and production teams. Additionally, you will develop and deliver training programs for laser tracker and toolmaking operations, ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, and perform root cause analysis to implement corrective actions.About You

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Typically 8+ years of related experience.
  • Expert knowledge of best shop practices including PPE and shop safety requirements.
  • Experience performing advanced equipment setup and maintenance activities, and display expert mechanical aptitude, shop tool, and hand tool competency.
  • Proficient in the use of precision measurement tools and fabricating fixtures for flight and non-flight assemblies.
  • Ability to lead and enforce 5S, FOD and ESD process.
  • Able to read blueprints and knowledgeable in GD&T.
  • Experience with metrology software (Verisurf or Spatial Analyzer preferred).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification: Machinist certification or related certification.
  • Extensive experience with Laser Trackers, portable CMM arm, or laser scanners.
  • Significant experience in a high-precision manufacturing or toolmaking environment.
  • Extensive experience in laser tracker operation/toolmaking.
  • Expertise in advanced measurements.
  • Advanced proficiency in using hand and power tools.
  • Deep understanding of advanced toolmaking processes and techniques.
  • Experience in the interpretation of complex technical drawings and blueprints, including GD&T principles.
  • Extensive experience with coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and advanced metrology techniques.
  • Strong familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to lead and mentor others.
  • Advanced experience with CAD/CAM software for designing and programming tooling.
  • In-depth knowledge of material properties and advanced heat treatment processes.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues with tooling and equipment.
  • Extensive familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and practices, with a track record of successful implementation.
Compensation:

Pay Range:

$36.70 - $50.46

Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education,experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.
