Description and Functions Open Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking a GIS Support Specialist based out of Cheyenne, WY. This position leads the technical administration, development, and ongoing support of a critical, agency-wide geospatial compliance application. The role serves as a primary technical liaison for non-technical stakeholders, including regulatory applicants and habitat biologists.

Patience, strong communication, and user support are just as critical as GIS technical skills. While focusing significantly on this high-impact project, the position offers opportunities to help design and develop future enterprise GIS applications to support agency objectives. Configure and maintain geospatial solutions within agency cloud environments and relational database management systems. Deploy and support custom web applications within the Esri ecosystem, including ArcGIS Pro, Enterprise and Online

Use Python and other languages such as Arcade and JavaScript to script automated procedures and reduce manual data processes. Translate user requirements, formal agency directives, and wildlife policies into geospatial workflows and tools. Analyze imagery to identify and digitize critical landscape features.

Provide geoprocessing analyses on various datasets to produce information summaries for annual reporting purposes. Design and publish advanced mapping products and applications using Esri software. Protect sensitive landscape and private land data during the analysis of data and the creation and distribution of public information.

Troubleshoot and resolve enterprise GIS issues. Support and coordinate with internal habitat protection biologists to review GIS data and proposed projects. Provide project and technical support to users of a public GIS application.

Coordinate with federal and state agencies to review GIS data and review proposed landscape projects. Audit and review the work of internal and external GIS end-users to ensure compliance with spatial data standards. Continue building workflow guidance documentation.

Investigate emerging geospatial technologies and assess their value for agency conservation objectives. Participate in the development and configuration of new geospatial applications. Work as a member of the GIS section to support internal GIS end-users.

Qualifications PREFERENCES: Preference will be given to candidates with progressive training and/or experience in enterprise geospatial technology development, implementation, and ongoing administration. Preference will also be given to candidates with a concentration or minor in GIS, or GIS certification, or past employment in which geospatial technologies are applied. KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of enterprise geospatial technology, relational databases, and centralized data structures.

Expertise in configuring Esri desktop, web, and mobile software for both web applications, data collection and desktop client access. Experience using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise in a production environment. Proficiency in writing and debugging Python scripts to automate complex geospatial workflows.

Skills processing, converting, and manipulating geospatial data from varied source formats. Strong interpersonal and training skills to provide quality customer support, deliver user demonstrations, and compile process guidance documentation. Advanced investigative, research, and reasoning skills to resolve complex software application bugs and data interactions.

Strong verbal and written communication skills to deliver project presentations and updates to diverse organizational levels and customers/clients. Ability to interpret narrative descriptions-such as formal policies, agency directives, or user feedback-and translate them into standardized and effective geospatial solutions and workflows. Familiarity with imagery data and ability to recognize, classify, and digitize landscape features based on aerial imagery.

Basic IT skills and knowledge that support enterprise geospatial technologies and end-user workflows. Ability to manage workflow on simultaneous projects. Ability to train and help others in the use of geospatial applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Computer Technology) Experience: 0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Computer Technology) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Computer Technology Business Applications Specialist II OR Education & Experience Substitution: 4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Computer Technology) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Computer Technology Business Applications Specialist II Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Travel may be required; a valid Driver's License is required.
