To thrive as a Flexible HERS Rater, you need a strong understanding of building science, energy efficiency standards, and residential construction, typically supported by RESNET HERS Rater certification. Familiarity with diagnostic tools like blower doors, duct testers, and energy modeling software is essential. What is a Flexible HERS Rater?

A Flexible HERS Rater is a certified professional who evaluates the energy efficiency of homes using the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) developed by RESNET. The 'flexible' designation typically means that the rater can work on different types of residential properties and adapt to various project requirements, such as new construction, renovations, or existing homes. They conduct inspections, perform energy modeling, and use diagnostic tools to assess factors like insulation, air leakage, and HVAC performance. Their findings help homeowners, builders, and developers improve energy efficiency, qualify for incentives, and comply with building codes.
