Space Systems Engineer - Mid Level - TGAB
LOCATION: Peterson SFB, CO
CLEARANCE Active Secret
JOB STATUS: FT
TRAVEL: 20%
Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Mid-Level Space Systems Engineer for the TMAS 2 96 CTG Task Order, supporting the 45 TS / TGAB. This position provides support to the 45 Test Squadron - Space and Intelligence Flight at Peterson Space Force Base, CO.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
  • Technical BS Degree and 3-10 years of applicable experience. Additional experience may be substituted for education.
  • Active Secret clearance is required and must be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret clearance. U.S. Citizenship.
  • Relevant technical experience in one of the following fields: space operations, SATCOM, and MILSATCOM operations.
  • Ability to interface with prime contractors developing the system under test (SUT) regarding test objectives, schedules, budgets, and methods of test.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a team and to lead and direct the work of others.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Proficiency in the use and integration of MS Office applications.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
  • A current and active Top Secret Security Clearance with Special Compartmented Information (SCI) access is preferred.
  • Experience with Protected Anti-Jam Tactical SATCOM (PATS)
  • Experience with Protected Tactical Enterprise Service (PTES) SATCOM systems and operations, planning and executing SATCOM systems during degraded/denied environments.
  • Experience coordinating with DoD SATCOM operators (i.e. US Space Force, SMDC/ARSTRAT, AFSPC, Army and Navy).
  • Knowledge of, or experience with Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center (AFOTEC) or other DoD operational test agency concepts, procedures and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of, or experience with AGILE Software Development and test concepts, procedures and methodologies.
  • Some familiarity with one or more programming languages (e.g., Matlab, Fortran, Java, Python, C/C++), or with software development, most notably service-oriented architecture or web services and computer network protocols.
  • Experience related to DOD C4ISR system acquisition, systems engineering, and test engineering.
  • Experience interfacing with developmental contractors regarding test objectives, schedules, budgets, and methods of test.
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence.
  • Familiarity with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as chat technologies to enhance personal productivity.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides technical leadership and frequently serves as the technical authority for Department of Defense (DoD) Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) Systems to support Developmental Test & Evaluation (DT&E) of the Protected Anti-Jam Tactical SATCOM (PATS), Protected Tactical Enterprise Service (PTES), the Protected Tactical Waveform over WGS (PTWoW), and the Protected Tactical Waveform over Commercial (PTWoC).
  • Coordinates with DoD SATCOM community-of-interest to conduct DT&E planning and identifies and schedules available resources.
  • Conducts data analysis and applies knowledge of engineering technology under the direction of engineering staff. These tasks include test and evaluation, test support, logistics, sustainment, operations analyses, technical studies, and various analyses and support activities including program and system security.
  • Assists in the development of system requirements, performance measures, test phase entry & exit criteria, and analysis of design constraints, functional capabilities, and metrics.
  • Supports AGILE software development and testing in contractor facilities.
  • Supports DT&E, Operational Test (OT), Force Development Evaluation (FDE), Risk Reduction Testing (RRT) and certification for test readiness; identifies deficiencies, verifies compliance with specifications and standards, and assesses stability of various system configurations.
  • Supports senior engineers when interacting with System Program Offices, other services, and works closely with developmental contractors.
  • Prepares, executes, reviews, and analyzes test plans, procedures, metrics, and reports throughout the software development life cycle.
  • Using AGILE Test Methodologies, develops and writes test plan/methods of test, Concepts of Operations (CONOPS), test cases, test objectives and procedures, analysis and review of requirements, test reports, and other test process documents as required in the conduct of testing.
  • Coordinates schedules, pre-and post-test activities, logistics of test planning, and test results.
  • Provides on-site test support with developmental contractors with regular developmental test activities in contractor labs and facilities.
  • Travels up to 20% of time to contractors' facilities, test sites, and other locations (OCONUS and CONUS).
