Job description

Apple designs consumer electronics that have touched millions and changed the way people interact with technology around the world. Our organization plays a key role in upholding the world-class quality standards that define Apple, ensuring that every customer enjoys an exceptional hardware experience.
Our group is looking for a passionate and self-driven engineer who will be directly responsible for designing innovative system solutions spanning from lab-based design validation all the way to high-volume manufacturing for Apple's entire wireless charging ecosystem. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of hardware, software, and mechatronics, developing solutions in both lab and high-volume manufacturing environments. These solutions include hardware modules, mechanical fixtures, and software automations that drive performance characterization and validation of Apple's wireless charging products.
Description
As a Hardware System Engineer on this team, you will develop a remarkably broad set of skills that span product design, hardware design, software development, mechanical design, factory deployment, factory reliability, vendor engagement, and executive communication. This role is designed to not only deepen your existing expertise but also give you the opportunity to grow in new and exciting directions.
In this role you will design automated test solutions that scale from bench-level characterization all the way to high-volume manufacturing across Apple's entire wireless charging ecosystem. You will work closely with hardware and silicon design teams to ensure new products meet Apple's high standards for customer experience during high-volume manufacturing, while also debugging any issues that surface along the way. You will develop validation strategies and execute electrical and system-level validation across build cycles to catch and resolve design issues, improving overall product quality and keeping launches on schedule.
Beyond validation, you will research emerging technologies to understand unique failure mechanisms and develop software solutions for automating test equipment control, device control, test flow, data acquisition, and data processing. You will continuously work to improve testing speed, coverage, accuracy, and reliability, while regularly parsing, plotting, and analyzing data sets ranging from low-volume characterization to high-volume production. You will also periodically present key developments, findings, support strategies, and timelines to management and cross-functional teams, making clear and impactful communication a core part of your role.
Preferred Qualifications
In-depth knowledge of electrical systems instrumentation design - especially around wireless charging
Understanding of embedded systems concepts
Skilled in testing embedded systems, familiarity with standard hardware protocols (USB, SPI, and I2C)
Proficient in scripting Python/PERL/Shell
Hands-on and proficient with debugging tools and equipment: digital multi-meter, spectrum analyzer, signal generator, oscilloscope, power supply, data logger...etc.
Knowledgeable in production control processes, data analysis/interpretation, GR&R, Cp/Cpk and correlation analysis.
Ability to manage, manipulate, process, and analyze large data sets using tools like Excel/Matlab/JMP
Minimum Qualifications
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
2+ years in hardware systems design
Design of complex system architectures with strong electrical engineering fundamentals
Ability to identify design tradeoffs and optimize circuits to meet product requirements.
Demonstrated ability to bring up, debug, and validate circuitry
Solid programming experience in C/C++/Python for tools development
Proven ability to work independently under high pressure/fast pace and comfortable working in a dynamic highly cross-functional environment
Ability to travel internationally to manufacturing sites, up to 20%
