Job Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days - totaling 80 hours worked - and have every other Friday off

Job Description:

L3Harris Communication Systems is seeking a Systems Engineer, Sr Specialist to support the full lifecycle of advanced data link and SATCOM systems, from concept development and capture through design, integration, verification, deployment, sustainment, and eventual product phase-out.

This role is ideal for an experienced systems engineer who works effectively in complex, mission-critical environments and brings strong technical knowledge across hardware, software, and integrated system solutions. The selected candidate will contribute to technical direction, support cross-functional engineering execution, collaborate with internal and customer stakeholders, and help ensure solutions meet customer needs, mission requirements, and quality standards.

As a specialist systems engineer, you will serve as a senior technical contributor for complex engineering efforts within the function. You will support architecture and requirements development, participate in key technical reviews, contribute to risk reduction and problem solving, and help strengthen systems engineering methods, tools, and practices across the team.

Essential Functions:

    • Execute systems engineering activities across the program lifecycle, including requirements development, architecture definition, interface management, integration, verification, validation, deployment, and sustainment.
    • Manage customer, derived, and allocated requirements across system levels, ensuring decomposition, traceability, change control, and verification closure.
    • Contribute to technical baseline development, trade studies, architecture decisions, and design reviews for complex communications systems.
    • Develop, review, and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, interface control documents, architecture artifacts, test plans, procedures, verification strategies, and technical reports.
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams to support system design, integration, and test activities across multiple engineering disciplines.
    • Support technical risk and opportunity management, root-cause analysis, and corrective action planning across cost, schedule, performance, cybersecurity, and mission requirements.
    • Partner with program leadership, customers, and engineering stakeholders to support technical planning, milestone reviews, proposals, and ongoing execution.
    • Provide guidance and technical support to other engineers within the team and contribute to a collaborative engineering environment.
    • Recommend improvements to systems engineering processes, tools, standards, and digital engineering practices, including MBSE where applicable.
    • Travel 10-20% within CONUS to support customer meetings, technical reviews, demonstrations, and verification activities.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience; or a graduate degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

    • Experience supporting complex systems engineering efforts for integrated communications, SATCOM, or data link systems across multiple phases of the system lifecycle.
    • Strong background in requirements management, system architecture, interface definition, integration, and verification for hardware and software-intensive systems.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently under general oversight and contribute to cross-functional technical efforts.
    • Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information clearly to engineering teams, program stakeholders, and customers.
    • Experience designing, building, integrating, testing, and optimizing complex military communications systems, including SATCOM and line-of-sight solutions.
    • Experience with lab test equipment such as signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power meters, and network testers.
    • Familiarity with tools used for requirements management, modeling and simulation, configuration management, and technical documentation.
    • Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and tools.
    • Experience supporting customer engagements, design reviews, technical reviews, and major program milestones.
    • Experience with Type 1 encryption products and cybersecurity requirements.
    • Active Secret security clearance.
