Location: Kent Campus Hospital
Status: Full Time 80 Hours
Shift: Day/ Evening 5:00a-1:30p OR 1:00p - 9:30p AND rotates 1 weekend per month.
SALARY RANGE: 15.75 - 23.63 HOURLY
General Summary:
The Linen Technician is responsible for collecting, sorting, cleaning, and distributing linens, gowns, uniforms, and other hospital textiles. This role ensures that all hospital areas have an adequate supply of clean, sterile linens to maintain operational efficiency and patient care standards.
Responsibilities:
1. Linen Collection and Sorting, including collecting soiled linens from various departments, including patient rooms, operating rooms, and outpatient areas. Transports may contain biohazard items, tissue, and Personal Protected Information (PHI). Sort soiled linens according to fabric type, color, and level of contamination. Safely handle contaminated linens to avoid the spread of infections. Ensure proper washing cycles and temperature control to meet hygiene standards.
2. Quality Control measures, including inspecting cleaned linens for damage, stains, or wear and tear, removing damaged or worn linens from circulation, and folding, organizing, and preparing linens for distribution.
3. Linen Distribution, including delivering clean linens to various hospital units according to daily schedules. Maintain inventory levels in linen closets across departments. Respond to special linen requests from units, such as extra sheets, gowns, or surgical scrubs.
4. Inventory and Stock Management duties, including tracking linen usage and stock levels using inventory management software or logs. Reorder linens when stock falls below required levels. Maintain organization and cleanliness in the linen storage areas.
5. Safety and Compliance responsibilities include always following hospital safety protocols and infection control procedures. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) while handling soiled linens.
6. Required to handle and distribute non-controlled medication solutions and required to work in areas where patient-specific medications are stored. Supply Chain staff are expected and authorized to transport locked and secured medications.
7. As needed, responsible for picking up, transporting, and delivering mail, supplies, and equipment. Transports may contain biohazard items, tissue, and Personal Protected Information (PHI). Handheld scanners are used to maintain a recorded chain of custody for all deliveries.
8. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of department responsibilities.
