Job description

General Definition of Work The purpose of this position is to perform difficult administration and skilled technical work supervising the servicing and maintenance of a variety of automotive and heavy construction equipment. This job works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings. Essential Functions/Duties The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class.

Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Assists Division management with division administration, including budgeting, personnel administration, performance management, policy implementation, procurement, strategic planning, reports, special projects, and other operational initiatives Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals. Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.

Gives technical advice / assistance and supervises work on difficult jobs. Responds to both internal and external customer complaints and takes appropriate action(s). Supervises and coordinates the maintenance inventory for a large and varied equipment fleet.

Coordinates supplier deliveries. Determines need and feasibility of major repairs. Inspect jobs for adherence to standards.

Monitors service/repair order and maintenance system. Assists in preparing annual budget. Performs related work as assigned.

Education/Experience/Physical Demands/Special Requirements/Additional Information MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Requires an Associate's degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education. Ten years of automotive or heavy equipment maintenance and repair or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Must possess and maintain a valid Class B state commercial driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

ASE Master and North Carolina State Inspection License within six months of hire. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT): Unavoidable hazards refer to job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. Involves routine and frequent exposure to: Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen. Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.

Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife. Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors. Traffic; Moving machinery.
