What is a Fit Tech?

Fit Techs, short for Fitting Technicians, are professionals who specialize in ensuring that garments, footwear, or equipment fit customers properly. They often work in retail, manufacturing, or sports industries, assisting with fittings, making recommendations for alterations, and ensuring comfort and performance. Fit Techs may use specialized tools to take measurements and may also provide feedback to designers or product teams to improve future products. Their expertise is crucial for customer satisfaction and product quality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fit Tech?

To thrive as a Fit Tech, you need a strong understanding of body measurements, garment fitting techniques, and textiles, often supported by experience in apparel or fashion design. Familiarity with fit assessment tools, digital patternmaking software (such as Gerber or CLO 3D), and garment specification systems is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication with design and production teams are vital soft skills. These competencies ensure accurate garment fits, efficient production processes, and high-quality products that meet customer and brand standards.

How does a Fit Tech typically collaborate with designers and product developers during the apparel creation process?

As a Fit Tech, collaboration with designers and product developers is a core part of daily responsibilities. Fit Techs participate in fit sessions, providing technical feedback on garment samples and recommending adjustments to ensure products meet both aesthetic and functional requirements. They bridge the gap between creative vision and manufacturability, ensuring that specifications and grading are accurate for a consistent fit across all sizes. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as Fit Techs often coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve fit or construction challenges and contribute to a high-quality final product.

Job description

Description:

THE OPPORTUNITY
Beacon EmbeddedWorks (Beacon), formerly Logic PD, is a long established (20+ years) company with an enviable blue chip customer base, selling into multiple segments through multiple channels, in the US and worldwide. Having been acquired by discoverIE Group plc in 2021, Beacon has established a market leading design, in-house manufacturing and lifecycle support capability and is now looking to scale its business on this strong foundation.

At this exciting time in the company’s journey, Beacon Group is looking for the senior-most technology leader responsible for setting technology direction, shaping the product and solution portfolio, and providing customer-facing technical credibility across Beacon EmbeddedWorks and Diamond Technologies.

This is a strategic, growth-oriented role. The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) ensures that technology and product decisions directly support revenue growth, sales effectiveness, margin improvement, and long-term enterprise value. Technology choices are treated as business and investment decisions, not standalone engineering efforts. The role is intentionally not focused on day-to-day engineering execution. Instead, the CTO focuses on portfolio direction, platform strategy, risk management, and converting technology investment into measurable commercial outcomes.

ABOUT DISCOVERIE

Beacon is part of discoverIE Group plc, a British company listed on the main London stock exchange where it is a member of the FTSE 250 index. discoverIE Group plc is an international group of businesses that designs, manufactures, and supplies customized, innovative, and application-specific components for electronic applications. In-house engineers work closely with customers to design bespoke products for their specific requirements; these are then manufactured and supplied, usually on a repeating revenue basis, for their ongoing production needs. This model generates a high level of recurring revenue and long-term customer relationships. The group operates across a wide range of industry segments but focuses particularly on key target markets which are driven by structural growth and increasing electronic content: medical, renewable energy, industrial connectivity, and transportation. The Group aims to achieve organic growth that is well ahead of GDP and to supplement that with targeted, complementary acquisitions.

Over the last seven years, sales have more than doubled and operating profits have grown five-fold. The Group has a market capitalization of $850M (August 2025) and for the year ending 31st March, 2025 generated revenues of $570M and underlying profit before tax of $81M. The Group employs c.4,500 people and its principal operating units are in Continental Europe, the UK, China, Sri Lanka, India, and North America.
