Job description

Role Summary

We are looking for a Firmware Manager to lead and grow the embedded software team responsible for the control, safety, and communication firmware that powers our converters and solid-state transformer platforms.

You will guide technical architecture, drive execution across multiple product lines, and build a team that consistently delivers highreliability embedded systems. This role is handson: you will both manage engineers and contribute to design, code reviews, system bringup, and debugging of real hardware.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of firmware, power electronics, and product leadership.

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

  • Own the architecture, implementation, and quality of all firmware running on our converter and SST platforms.
  • Lead firmware design reviews, safety analyses, and highlevel technical decisions
  • Partner closely with Controls, Power Electronics, Electrical, and Systems teams to translate product and system requirements into clear firmware specifications
  • Guide firmware architecture across multiple MCU platforms
  • Establish best practices for embedded development-coding standards, CI/CD, testing frameworks, branching strategies, and documentation

Execution & Delivery

  • Drive firmware delivery across multiple releases and hardware revisions
  • Manage prioritization, sprint planning, and crossfunctional alignment with Hardware, Controls, Systems, and Manufacturing teams
  • Work directly with hardware during bring-up: oscilloscopes, UART/SPI/I2C debug, JTAG, power event testing, and system validation
  • Own rootcause investigation for firmwarerelated issues in lab, field, and manufacturing environments

Team Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a highperforming firmware engineering team
  • Create growth paths, set expectations, and provide regular feedback
  • Build a culture of ownership, collaboration, and technical curiosity
  • Foster strong crossteam communication and requirements traceability

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years developing embedded firmware in C/C++ for realtime systems
  • 2+ years managing or leading firmware teams
  • Strong experience with realtime control systems, safetycritical firmware, or power electronics
  • Deep understanding of microcontroller architectures, interrupts, DMA, peripherals, bootloaders, and RTOS environments
  • Handson experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, hardware bringup, and debugging at the board and system level
  • Experience with structured requirements (PRS/DRS), version control, CI/CD, and firmware release processes
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with grid-connected systems
  • Knowledge of safety standards (UL/IEC), HV/MV systems, or SILoriented firmware development
  • Exposure to manufacturing test firmware
  • Experience scaling firmware practices for multiproduct hardware organizationsÂ
