ABOUT THIS ROLE

Job Summary:

Apex Fintech Solutions is seeking a Manager, Data Engineering to lead our Data Lake team. This team owns the foundational data infrastructure that powers analytics, reporting, and real-time data processing across our platform, supporting all trading and operational data for Apex Fintech Solutions. You will play a pivotal role in leading this team while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams and stakeholders to deliver cutting-edge data solutions that shape the future of our industry. This is not just a people management role; it's an opportunity to lead with vision, technical expertise, and strategic thinking in a fast-paced fintech environment. You will be at the forefront of our data platform initiatives, ensuring that our solutions not only meet but exceed our stakeholders' expectations for scalability, reliability, and performance.
In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to wear multiple hats from strategic planning and architecture design to hands-on execution of data engineering initiatives, working with highly talented engineers and empowering your team to make a significant impact on our delivery outcomes and company growth. Your leadership will inspire collaboration, drive innovation, and create a teaching and learning culture of excellence that resonates throughout the organization. We're looking for someone who isn't afraid to say "I don't know" when faced with complex challenges, but who leans into those challenges with a problem-solver mindset to find solutions that have never been done before.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Data Lake engineering team, driving technical initiatives from conception to production while ensuring alignment with business objectives, platform scalability requirements, and delivery timelines

  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders including product managers, data scientists, and business leaders to define scope, objectives, and technical deliverables throughout the data platform lifecycle

  • Build and mentor a high-performing team of data engineers, fostering a teaching and learning culture where continuous improvement, technical excellence, and ownership are core values

  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, retrospectives, and PI Planning, promoting iterative development and team collaboration while maintaining focus on delivering measurable outcomes

  • Own the technical strategy and architecture for our data lake infrastructure, making hands-on contributions to design scalable solutions for data ingestion, storage, and real-time processing that support our business growth

  • Identify and proactively mitigate technical and operational risks, addressing issues before they impact delivery while maintaining transparency with stakeholders through clear communication and regular reporting

  • Coordinate resource allocation and work prioritization across multiple initiatives, balancing team capacity with competing demands to ensure optimal delivery of platform capabilities

  • Establish and enforce data engineering best practices, governance standards, and security protocols, ensuring we do things the right way without cutting corners on quality or compliance

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Deep technical proficiency in cloud-based systems (GCP preferred), including BigQuery, Snowflake, Cloud Storage, and experience building scalable data lake architectures and microservices

  • Strong understanding of fault-tolerant system design, high-availability services, and real-time data ingestion patterns to support high-throughput processing requirements

  • Solid grasp of DevOps principles with hands-on experience in CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and infrastructure as code for data platform operations

  • Understanding of security best practices for data systems, API design, and infrastructure within regulated environments, with knowledge of compliance requirements in financial services highly desired

  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to navigate technical complexities, manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, and maintain attention to detail

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences and build strong collaborative relationships across global teams

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Engineering, or related field; Master's degree in business administration or computer science is a plus

  • 6+ years of hands-on data engineering experience with 2+ years as a people manager, preferably in Financial Services (FinTech) or high-growth technology environments

  • Proven expertise in Agile Development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and project management tools (Jira, Confluence) with track record of delivering complex technical projects on time

Work Environment:

  • This job operates in a hybrid, office environment 3 days per week
