What is a fine dining captain?

Fine Dining Captains are senior members of the restaurant service team responsible for overseeing guest experiences in high-end dining establishments. They manage and coordinate servers, ensure impeccable service standards, and act as the main point of contact between guests and the kitchen. Their duties include taking orders, making menu recommendations, supervising table settings, and resolving guest concerns to provide an exceptional dining experience. Fine Dining Captains often possess extensive knowledge of food and wine, as well as strong leadership and communication skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fine dining captain?

Familiarity with POS systems, reservation software, and menu design tools is typically required. Exceptional leadership, attention to detail, and refined communication skills distinguish top performers in this role. These abilities ensure seamless service, guest satisfaction, and effective coordination in a demanding fine dining environment.

What are some of the main challenges fine dining captains face during busy service hours?

Fine Dining Captains often encounter challenges such as managing large volumes of guests while ensuring each table receives attentive, personalized service. During peak hours, they must coordinate seamlessly with the kitchen and waitstaff to maintain the high standards expected in fine dining. Job description

Forsythia is hiring a captain!

Forsythia is a Roman restaurant in the heart of downtown Manhattan. The staff is comprised of young veterans in the hospitality industry, and we are looking to add someone to the fold who wants to grow with us.

We're looking for someone who can marry a few years of fine dining experience with a small business mindset, and an above average ability to find new solutions to old issues - the ideal candidate will be highly adaptable, nimble, and able to make good decisions rapidly.

Forsythia operates like a restaurant in Italy; our employees lead balanced lives, our restaurant opens and closes at reasonable hours, and we offer above average vacation time, benefits, and pay.

In return, we ask all of our employees to commit to a small team who collectively want to accomplish a singular mission, and tackle any hurdle that may come their way. Our values are hard work, dedication and leading with kindness and empathy. We want to hire a captain who is like minded and committed to growth.
We are open to full or part time applicants. Weekend and holiday availably mandatory.
