Job description

The Project Captain (PC) is a key technical and production leadership role within Forum. This position is responsible for the day-to-day coordination, development, and execution of construction documents across one or multiple projects simultaneously. The Project Captain works closely with Project Managers, Studio Directors, consultants, and production teams to ensure projects are delivered accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with Forum’s design standards, technical quality expectations, and project schedules.

This role serves as a bridge between design intent and technical execution, requiring strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities. The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically proficient, collaborative, and capable of guiding project teams through all phases of documentation and coordination.

The Project Captain plays an integral role in maintaining project momentum, mentoring junior staff, and upholding Forum’s reputation for quality, responsiveness, and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Project Documentation & Technical Coordination

  • Lead the preparation, coordination, and quality control of construction documents through all project phases.
  • Oversee the daily production and technical execution of drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure drawings are accurate, coordinated, code-compliant, and aligned with project schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinate with engineering consultants, vendors, and internal design teams to maintain project consistency and technical integrity.
  • Identify and proactively resolve technical and coordination issues before they impact project delivery.
  • Assist in developing project details, building systems integration, and constructability solutions.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior architectural staff and production team members.
  • Delegate drafting and production tasks effectively while monitoring progress and maintaining accountability.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment that supports professional growth, communication, and project success.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Studio Directors to support staffing, scheduling, and production workflows.
  • Participate in internal coordination meetings, redline reviews, and project planning discussions.

Construction Administration & Client Support

  • Serve as a technical resource during permitting and construction phases.
  • Review contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and field reports for compliance with design intent and project documentation.
  • Address building department comments and coordinate drawing revisions as required.
  • Participate in site visits, consultant meetings, and owner/client coordination meetings as Forum’s representative.
  • Support the Project Manager in maintaining strong consultant, contractor, and client relationships.

Technical & Professional Expectations

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of building codes, construction methods, detailing standards, and building systems.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Revit and other production/documentation software utilized by Forum.
  • Maintain awareness of project deadlines and proactively communicate scheduling concerns or coordination challenges.
  • Uphold Forum’s standards for organization, communication, responsiveness, and technical quality.

Qualifications

Required

  • Professional degree in Architecture from a NAAB-accredited program with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Technical degree or non-professional bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in architectural production and coordination.
  • Strong proficiency in Revit and construction documentation.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes and construction practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in multi-family, mixed-use, hospitality, or commercial project types.
  • Construction administration experience.
  • Progress toward architectural licensure or interest in pursuing licensure.
  • Experience coordinating consultant teams and mentoring junior staff.
