Controller

Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma
Classification: Exempt
Reports To: President/Chief Executive Officer

Position Summary

Working with our client to recruit a hands-on Controller to lead the company’s accounting and financial operations. This individual will be responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting, general ledger accounting, budgeting, cash management, inventory and cost accounting, internal controls, and financial analysis. The Controller will work closely with company leadership and operational teams to improve financial visibility, strengthen processes, monitor manufacturing performance, and support sound business decisions.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting skills with practical business judgment and is comfortable working directly with employees throughout the organization. This position requires someone who can manage day-to-day accounting responsibilities while also providing leadership with meaningful analysis and recommendations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead all accounting functions, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll oversight, fixed assets, and financial reporting.
  • Manage the monthly and year-end close processes, ensuring financial statements are accurate, complete, and issued on time.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, forecasts, and operational analyses.
  • Monitor cash flow, banking activity, working capital, and short- and long-term cash requirements.
  • Oversee inventory accounting, including inventory valuation, physical counts, reserves, adjustments, and related internal controls.
  • Maintain and improve cost-accounting processes for labor, materials, overhead, work in process, and finished goods.
  • Analyze product, customer, and project profitability and identify opportunities to improve margins.
  • Review job-costing information and compare actual results with estimates, budgets, and prior periods.
  • Partner with estimating, purchasing, production, and operations personnel to improve the accuracy and usefulness of financial information.
  • Develop the annual operating budget and provide ongoing budget-to-actual and variance reporting.
  • Establish, document, and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Manage sales tax, property tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate year-end financial reporting and work with outside accounting, tax, insurance, banking, and other professional partners.
  • Maintain appropriate financial records and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
  • Evaluate accounting systems and processes and implement improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency, and financial visibility.
  • Develop key performance indicators and reporting tools to help leadership evaluate operational and financial performance.
  • Supervise, develop, and support accounting team members, as applicable.
  • Protect confidential company, employee, customer, and financial information.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA or CMA designation preferred.
  • At least seven years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or Controller-level responsibilities.
  • Manufacturing, fabrication, construction, HVAC, or related industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of inventory accounting, cost accounting, job costing, and manufacturing operations.
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience managing month-end close, budgeting, cash flow, internal controls, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency with accounting or ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience improving accounting systems, reporting tools, and business processes preferred.
