Financial Controller Relocation information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Financial Controller in a relocation setting, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Financial Controller, you need strong expertise in accounting principles, financial analysis, and regulatory compliance, typically supported by a degree in finance or accounting and a CPA or equivalent certification. Familiarity with ERP systems (such as SAP or Oracle), advanced Excel skills, and financial reporting tools is essential. Leadership, adaptability, and cross-cultural communication are standout soft skills, especially when managing finance functions across multiple locations. These competencies enable effective financial oversight, ensure regulatory adherence, and facilitate smooth business operations during organizational transitions or relocations.

A Financial Controller involved in a company relocation often faces the challenge of managing financial compliance across jurisdictions, forecasting the costs associated with the move, and ensuring business continuity throughout the transition. Preparation includes conducting thorough due diligence on local regulations, coordinating closely with HR and operations to align budgets and timelines, and establishing clear reporting structures for relocated and remaining teams. Leveraging project management tools and maintaining open communication with all stakeholders are key to successfully navigating these complexities.

Job description

US Controller

Location: Roseville, MN (Relocation Offered)
Compensation: Competitive base up to $200,000 + bonus

Overview

A private‐equity‐backed manufacturing company is seeking a US Controller to lead and stabilize its U.S. accounting operations. The organization operates multiple manufacturing sites and is focused on strengthening financial discipline, improving close performance, and preparing the business for a future liquidity event.

This role is designed for an experienced accounting leader who wants real ownership, not just oversight. You will be the primary point of accountability for U.S. accounting and will work closely with operations and senior leadership in a fast‐paced, results‐driven environment.

Why This Company

  • Private‐equity‐backed manufacturing business with a clear mandate to strengthen financial discipline
  • Multi‐plant U.S. manufacturing footprint with complex operations that require strong accounting leadership and hands‐on ownership
  • High visibility role with direct exposure to senior leadership and PE sponsors
  • Opportunity to build durable processes, elevate the accounting function, and leave a lasting operational imprint
  • A culture that values accountability, problem‐solving, and leaders who step in rather than step back
  • Relocation assistance is available, and the company is open and experienced in supporting candidates relocating from all markets

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • End‐to‐end ownership of U.S. accounting, including GL, trial balance, and financial close
  • Leadership of month‐end, quarter‐end, and year‐end close processes
  • Oversight of accounting functions supporting manufacturing operations and corporate activities
  • Direct management and development of general accounting, AP/AR, and cost accounting teams
  • Identification and resolution of close issues, reconciliations, and legacy process gaps
  • Drive continuous improvement in controls, systems, and accounting workflows
  • Partner with operations leaders to improve cost visibility and financial accuracy
  • Ensure GAAP compliance and audit readiness in a private‐equity environment

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has served as a Controller or senior accounting leader in a manufacturing environment
  • Brings deep experience in cost accounting and operational finance
  • Has owned a full month‐end close
  • Is comfortable operating in ambiguity and under time pressure
  • Leads from the front and isn't afraid to get into the details
  • Can mentor and elevate a developing accounting team

Preferred Backgrounds

  • Private‐equity‐backed or sponsor‐owned companies
  • Multi‐plant manufacturing organizations
  • Business consolidations, reorganizations, or ERP/process improvement efforts
