Reports to: Regional Finance Director, US Oncology
Northwest Cancer Centers is the most advanced oncology group in Northwest Indiana. Our physicians have combined decades of experience and received their training at highly acclaimed research institutions both nearby in Chicago and across the world. Our Gynecologic Oncology team offers an integrative approach to the diagnosis, treatment and surgical management of women cancers. Our focus as physicians is to give you the right diagnosis and guide you as medical experts. We take pride in using a comprehensive approach towards our patients’ health. We believe that long-term care after cancer treatment is as important as your current treatment.
Scope:
Northwest Cancer Centers is seeking a dynamic Finance Director/Controller with a primary focus on financial planning, analytics, and strategic decision support. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives on transforming data into actionable insights, driving business growth, and partnering with senior management and physician leaders. The successful candidate will champion FP&A initiatives, lead financial operations, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. This position is responsible for controllership including the preparation and management of the division’s financial statements, budgets, and forecasts with the aid of Accounting & Finance Operations staff. These duties supporting Northwest Cancer Centers would occupy approximately 75% of this position’s time.
In addition to supporting Northwest Cancer Centers, this position will also support a smaller oncology practice in the geographic region. This other practice can be serviced remotely. The duties supporting this practice will occupy approximately 25% of this position’s time.
Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Planning & Analytics
- Lead all finance activities for the regions, including budgeting, forecasting, and monthly reporting.
- Develop and implement advanced analytics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
- Design and maintain dashboards and decision support tools to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive data-driven decision making.
- Partner with operations, physician leadership, and business units to support strategic initiatives and growth plans.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to regional and practice leadership, translating financial data into business insights.
- Drive finance transformation projects, including process standardization, automation, and adoption of digital tools and AI for enhanced analytics.
- Present financial analysis and recommendations at Board, Finance Committee, and physician meetings, tailoring messaging for diverse audiences.
- Collaborate with practice leadership to follow the day to day accounting and financial duties.
- Confirm accuracy of AP invoicing.
- Lead financial analysis for capital expenditures, new projects, and business cases.
- Support business development activities, including product line analysis, physician recruitment, and acquisitions.
- Oversee financial statement management, reconciliations, and internal controls, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
- Focus on integrating accounting processes with analytics for holistic financial oversight.
- Oversight of revenue cycle and reconciliation of key accounts (AR, cash clearing, credit balances, reserves for contractual, bad debt and denials)
- Ensures information systems capture financial information required by third party payers, practice management, physicians, company and required external sources
- Coordinates payroll functions and related reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred.
- 12+ years of professional experience, including 8+ years in management roles.
- Demonstrated expertise in FP&A, financial analytics, and business partnership within healthcare or multi-site organizations.
- Experience leading finance transformation initiatives, including automation and digital analytics.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, Power BI (or similar analytics tools), and presentation software.
- Strong executive presence, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Healthcare industry experience (oncology, hospital administration, multi-site care) highly preferred.
- Intellectual curiosity and a passion for analytics and data-driven decision making.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear business insights.
- Collaborative, adaptable, and able to influence across functional areas.
- Self-starter, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
