Job Summary
The Department of Strategic Communication, Media, and Film at Columbus State University seeks applicants for a fulltime, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position to support instruction in the Media and Film (undergraduate) and Creative Services Management (graduate) tracks. This faculty member will be instrumental in teaching practical skills such as video, audio, and streaming production; developing related curriculum and courses; and helping shape the future of curriculum with the department. We seek an applicant with strong applied media skills who can move fluently between media production and journalistic storytelling and who enjoys working in a production-forward, industry-connected environment. The position will begin in January of 2027. Review of applications will begin in April 2026 and continue until the position has been filled.
Responsibilities
Significant Duties & Responsibilities include: Teaching Video Production 1, 2, 3 (Documentary/narrative), Interactive Media Production, Podcasting, Social and Digital Media Creation and Analytics, and Research (undergraduate). Graduate courses will include Client Relations, Strategic social media and Data Analytics, Persuasive Content Productions, Advanced Production 1 and 2.; An active and current portfolio of creative projects/project development research is expected for tenure.; Applicants should be well-versed in qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods as they relate to traditional and digital communication and content creation.; Special consideration will be given to candidates with knowledge and/or experience in non-profit or media organizations, client relations, and production experience.; The successful candidate must present suitable qualifications to teach graduate level courses to support our Creative Services Management track.; An active portfolio of creative projects (with included research), specifically within creative services, integrated media / film production, or in the broader field is expected for position consideration.; Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to active learning.; In addition, the successful candidates will be responsible for supporting our recruitment efforts, our student organizations, and our Non-Profit and Civic Engagement Center (NPACE).; This position emphasizes hands-on instruction, curricular coordination and partnership development rather than traditional research expectations.; The successful candidate will maintain a 4:4 teaching load each semester.; Summer teaching is often available.; Ideal candidate should also be interested in AI content creation, digital strategy, documentary, and creative services as they relate to communication.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. or MFA in Communication or a closely related field, completed by the time of appointment. ABD candidates will be considered, but the degree must be conferred within one year of appointment for continued employment and to be eligible for tenure. Demonstrated professional experience in digital production and content creation across multiple formats is expected. A successful criminal background check will be required as a condition of employment.; Applicants must have the ability to meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools {SACS) requirements, in particular a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.

Conditions of Employment
