Job description

POSITION PURPOSE:
Carries or assists patients into and out of vehicle, using a stretcher. Transports sick or injured patients by ambulance and renders first aid. Cleans ambulance and performs minor repairs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current Nebraska drivers license with good driving record
  • Must be 25 years of age or older
  • One year driving experience
  • Familiar with traffic regulations and location of city streets
  • Ability to drive at night
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. SECURITY/ACCESS:
  • Will have access to the facility 24 hours a day.
  • Will have access to confidential information abiding by the organizations privacy policies and regulations concerning this information.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
1. Transports sick or injured persons by motor vehicle.
  • Carries or assists patients into and out of vehicle.
  • Minimizes aggravation of their condition.
  • Improvises stretchers when necessary.
  • Administers first aid.
  • Prepares reports indicating departures and arrivals on calls.

2. Maintains familiarity with general operation of ambulance.
  • Maintains control of ambulance during emergency and non emergency driving.
  • Operates phone and radio system.
  • Replaces supplies and disposable items on ambulances.

3. Keeps vehicle clean and in orderly condition.
  • Conducts minor repairs and adjustments.
  • Checks oil pressures, gas levels, tire pressure, etc
  • Ensures condition of vehicle is kept satisfactory for immediate and continued use of ambulance.

4. Takes call for ambulance transfers on an as needed basis.
5. Follows HIPAA regulations and ensures that the confidentiality of patients medical, personal, financial records, employee records, and organizational records is maintained.
6. Participates in FCH committees, quality assurance, performance and quality improvement initiatives, and activities which support the facility and department operations.
7. Complies with the state and federal regulatory requirements related to the performance of FCH operations and requirements of the FCH Compliance Program. Including but not limited to:
  • The Compliance Policy.
  • Completes all mandatory on-line training annually and as assigned.
  • All department and organization-wide policies.
  • Considers the impact of regulations such as Critical Access Hospital requirements, along with Federal and State of Nebraska regulations and discusses concerns appropriately to ensure compliance.

8. Presents self in a professional manner and enhances professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
  • Seeks opportunities for continued growth and performance improvement.
  • Always maintains a professional appearance and manner.
  • Dependable and completes work in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and emphasis on quantity, quality and knowledge of duties and tasks.
