Job description

Philadelphia FIGHT Family Dentistry is seeking a full-time Dental Assistant. The Dental Assistant is responsible for providing ancillary clinical support at FIGHT's Family Dentistry Department. Specifically, the Dental Assistant will prepare treatment rooms, greet patients and complete vital measurements. Dental Assistants are an integral part of the department and are expected to display a flexible, positive attitude, initiative, accountability, and the ability to adapt to changes in our growing health center.

We seek employees who can maintain a positive attitude, take accountability, and be adaptable to changes in our growing health center. This role requires teamwork, and the candidate will work closely and collaboratively with both clinical and administrative teams when necessary.

About the Role:

  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday (8:50 - 5:00PM). May occasionally require early mornings or extended evening hours as needed.
  • Location: FIGHT Family Dentistry, 1207 Chestnut St, 4th Floor, Phila, PA 19107
  • Compensation & Benefits:
    • FSLA status is non-exempt with an hourly rate of $22-25.
    • 3 weeks of PTO (4 weeks after 1st year) + 11 paid holidays.

Requirements:

  1. Must possess a Radiation Health and Safety certification from the Dental Assisting National Board within 3 months of hire.
  2. Must possess CPR/Basic Life Support/AED certification for adults and children within 3 months of hire.
  3. 2+ years of experience as a Dental Assistant required, preferably in a FQHC or public health environment.
  4. Proficiency in using a variety of dental equipment needed to successfully treat patients.
  5. Must possess basic computer skills to perform job duties including desktop computing, e-mail, time sheet management, reporting, internet research, etc. using relevant software such as HRIS and Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
  6. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and emergency situations successfully.
  7. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and excellent customer service.
  8. Ability to demonstrate cultural competency and understanding of a trauma-informed, harm-reduction approach to health care.
  9. Ability to remain organized
  10. Must be able to exercise good judgment and identify when to escalate issues as appropriate.
  11. Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices such as OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA and funding body regulations.
  12. Strong skillsets in interpersonal relationships and teamwork, attention to detail, customer service, time management, autonomy and problem solving.
  13. Discretion, initiative, and ability to maintain HIPAA compliance.

Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares treatment room by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
  2. Prepares patients for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, triaging, and obtaining vital measurements.
  3. Provides information to patients, including oral health education and oral hygiene instructions, and by answering questions or requests.
  4. Demonstrates high degree of knowledge and competency around general dental procedures, infection control procedures, sterilization technique, instrument setup and requisite materials.
  5. Provides diagnostic information by exposing and developing radiographic studies, pouring, trimming, and polishing study casts.
  6. Completes medical record utilizing FIGHT's electronic medical record system, ensuring accuracy.
  7. Tracks and facilitates legal and regulatory compliance for the dental clinic (e.g., HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, informed consent).
  8. Maintains and continuously improves professional and technical knowledge.
  9. Manages patient flow including triaging of urgent care patients.
  10. Provides oral health education and oral hygiene instructions to patients.
  11. Assists with training and onboarding new clinical staff.
  12. Upholds and ensures compliance and attention to all FIGHT policies and procedures as well as the overall mission and values of the organization.
  13. Other duties as assigned to fulfill FIGHT's mission.
