These roles often include additional benefits such as accommodation and travel allowances, with schedules usually involving extended periods on-site followed by time off.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a FIFO Cook, and why are they important?

To thrive as a FIFO Cook, you need solid cooking skills, knowledge of food safety standards, and often a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or similar qualification. Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment, inventory management systems, and HACCP procedures is typically required. They travel to the worksite for a set period (for example, two weeks on) and then return home for a break (such as one week off). FIFO cooks are responsible for preparing nutritious meals for employees, often catering to large groups and working long shifts. The role requires flexibility, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in challenging environments away from home.

How much do FIFO cooks make?

FIFO cooks typically earn between $15 and $25 per hour, depending on experience, location, and the specific mining or resource company. They often work long shifts in remote environments, with some positions offering additional allowances or benefits.

What is FIFO cooking?

FIFO cooking refers to the practice of using the 'First In, First Out' method in food preparation and storage, ensuring older ingredients are used before newer ones to maintain freshness and reduce waste.
