Description
The Community Engagement Associate supports Fenway Health's community engagement, health education, outreach, and partnership strategies by serving as an ambassador for Fenway Health in communities across Greater Boston. The position builds and maintains relationships with community partners, represents Fenway Health at community events, and delivers culturally responsive health education that increases awareness of Fenway Health services and reduces barriers to care.
Working closely with the Director of Equity, Social Justice, and Community Engagement, this role helps implement outreach strategies, coordinates community partnerships and events, supports stakeholder engagement, and collects community feedback to inform organizational priorities. The Community Engagement Associate also promotes Fenway Without Walls by educating community members about expanded access to care, including telehealth, walk-in services, evening and weekend availability, and other innovative care delivery models designed to meet people where they are.
Please note that this position will require regular travel to events in Greater Boston area.
Representative Duties:
Establishes and Implements Community Education, Outreach, Engagement Goals, Objectives, and Programming
  • Develops and implements community outreach, engagement, and health education activities aligned with departmental goals and organizational priorities.
  • Represents Fenway Health at community events, health fairs, schools, colleges, neighborhood organizations, and partner agencies to increase awareness of services and strengthen community relationships.
  • Provides culturally responsive health education to community members, organizations, and stakeholders on topics related to primary care, behavioral health, HIV prevention and care, sexual and reproductive health, LGBTQIA+ health, transgender health, immigrant health, and other priority populations.
  • Serves as a community ambassador for Fenway Without Walls, educating community members about expanded care options including telehealth, walk-in services, same-day access, evening and weekend hours, and other strategies designed to improve access to care.
  • Identifies opportunities to expand community partnerships, outreach efforts, and collaborative programming that improve health equity and reduce barriers to care.
  • Assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating outreach plans, community education initiatives, and engagement strategies using community feedback and participation data.
  • Assists with outreach activities supporting clinical, research, and organizational initiatives as assigned.
  • Identifies community needs, emerging issues, and opportunities for collaboration and communicates findings to internal stakeholders.
  • Maintains current knowledge of Fenway Health programs, services, and referral pathways to ensure accurate community education and navigation.

Supports Community Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Supports coordination Fenway Health participation in internal and external community events and maintains outreach coverage calendars.
  • Processes requests for Fenway Health representation at community events and secures appropriate staff participation.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with community organizations, coalitions, government agencies, educational institutions, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintains the community partner database and tracks engagement activities and partnership outcomes.
  • Supports coordination of community engagement committee meetings and partnership activities.
  • Supports logistics for outreach events, educational presentations, and community meetings.

Supports Community Communications and Partnership Development
  • Co-develops and distributes community partner newsletters and other communications to strengthen engagement and collaboration.
  • Supports management of ongoing communication with Fenway Health's Community Partner Network.
  • Collects, analyzes, and summarizes community feedback to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and stronger community partnerships.
  • Assists with digital outreach, social media content, and marketing efforts that promote community engagement initiatives and organizational priorities.

Supports Community Sponsorship and Program Administration
  • Supports the Community Sponsorship Awards process, including application review, communication, tracking, and reporting.
  • Assists with reporting on outreach activities, community engagement outcomes, and organizational impact.
  • Tracks community engagement metrics and prepares reports demonstrating progress toward departmental and strategic goals.
  • Provides administrative and operational support for community engagement initiatives and special projects.

Meets Agency Participatory Expectations
  • Suggests and participates in continuing quality improvement efforts
  • Adheres to all agency and departmental policies and procedures
  • Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested
  • Adheres to the highest principles of patient and client confidentiality
  • Adheres to established safety policies, procedures and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situation
  • Attends all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings
  • Attends all regularly scheduled research meetings, trainings, forums and pertinent Fenway Health staff meetings
  • Maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities
  • Assists the grant team in completing applications, midway reports and final reports

Requirements
  • Knowledge of community engagement, health education, health equity, and social drivers of health.
  • Ability to communicate complex health information in clear, culturally responsive, and accessible ways.
  • One to three years of experience in community outreach, community engagement, health education, public health, health promotion, patient navigation, or community organizing.
  • Experience delivering culturally responsive health education or facilitating presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Experience building relationships with community organizations, coalitions, and community leaders.
  • Experience coordinating outreach events, health fairs, or community-based programming.
  • Ability to work independently in community settings while maintaining strong collaboration with internal teams.
  • Commitment to equity, anti-racism, cultural humility, and community-centered approaches to care.
  • Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences. This includes engaging constructively with colleagues, patients, clients, and vendors in a manner that reflects professionalism, empathy, and cultural awareness, without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, or other protected characteristics as defined by applicable law.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with historically marginalized communities, including LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, immigrant, and other underserved populations preferred.
