Job description

The Illinois House of Representatives seeks an individual to fill the position of House Janitor. This position will be located in Springfield, Illinois.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Dumping trash and recycling containers in and around all House-controlled office areas and meeting spaces, and disposing the material into the Capitol Complex trash/recycle dumpster locations, which may be at another building on the complex.
  • Dusting, cleaning and vacuuming all House-controlled areas.
  • Cleaning, stocking, and mopping all House-controlled bathrooms.
  • Moving office furniture around office areas as well as loading and unloading of delivery and surplus trucks.
  • Ability to work on wet, slick, and dusty environments, as well as ability to work on a stool or ladder.
  • Ability to climb stairs when needed and carry items up the stairs;
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school degree or equivalent;
  • Ability to lift boxes of 50 to 100 pounds;
  • Ability to push or pull a cart holding 200 to 300 pounds;
  • Ability to navigate the Capitol Complex and transport materials between offices;
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, as well as walking for long stretches and distances; and
  • Ability to lift over head as well as clean above head.

Salary Range:

  • $40,000 minimum, compensation based on experience and education;
