7-10 years experience in design, configuration and troubleshooting networks, switching/routing, remote access/VPN and firewall/security
Cisco CCIE
• Cisco CCIE certificate (written and practical), Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• At least ten (10) years' experience in design, configuration and troubleshooting of:
- routing and switching (10/100/1000 Ethernet, Frame Relay, Bridging, TCP/IP, EIGRP and trunking protocols), (Cisco, Extreme, Enterasys),
- Firewall/security (including Palo Alto and Cisco) and firewall/VPN/security
- Load balancers (F5)
- Remote access (Juniper, Cisco)
• Excellent oral and written skills. Provide comments, reports, charts and designs (written and verbal) as required.
• Work independently or as part of a team to design, architect new projects (including documentation, commentary, task management and hardware/software/resource identification)
• Act as a technical escalation point, responding to implementation and technical issues.
• Work with BTDS management and staff members to understand business requirements, tactical and strategic goals/objectives and to formulate requirements or solution sets.
• Work independently or as part of a team to perform research and development for business/operational solutions
• Review and validation (verbally and written) of business systems designs and solution sets
• Participation in service planning tasks related to the effective operation of FDNY business (includes routing and switching, security, disaster recovery, network management, access, etc.)
• Work independently or as part of a team to perform product evaluation and comparison (includes test plans and written and verbal assessment summary)
• Interface with FDNY vendors and associated city/federal agencies
• Participate in generation of requests for proposals, grant requests and technical/business specifications
• Work independently or as part of a team to perform FDNY network/system auditing (problem identification, maintenance specifications and upgrade recommendation/requirements, etc)
• Participate in meetings with FDNY staff, other City agency personnel and vendors.
• Provide knowledge transfer and support to Network Services team members and other FDNY staff on data systems, technologies, business solutions and practices.
• Acquire knowledge of and provide support for current and future FDNY network/data services and initiatives. Provide knowledge transfer on these items. Provide technical assistance as necessary
• Participate in all phases of the change management process (including but not limited to, initiation, assessment and execution)
• Interface with BTDS management chain on a daily, weekly, monthly, periodic basis to provide status and to perform planning.
