Job description

SUMMARY

The Production Coordinator reports to Polar Temp's Operation Manager and is responsible for the timely and quality production of certain goods manufactured by the Polar Temp Division of Southeast Cooler Corp. These products include refrigerated transports and trailers, evaporators, doors, ice block makers, farm mortality units, refrigeration units, and other custom refrigeration products. This individual would also oversee the parts department. This position supervises approximately 15 to 25 employees. Safety, efficiency, and quality control are particular areas of emphasis in the manufacturing process.


DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises, directs, and coordinates the work of 15 - 25 employees involved in metal cutting, machining, foaming, refrigerating, welding, assembly, shipping, and other operations.
  • Spends a minimum of 85 to 90% of the workday on the plant floor in a supervisory role.
  • Meets daily and weekly production goals.
  • Submits production reports in a timely fashion.
  • Enforces Company’s policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Enforces OSHA safety requirements.
  • Ensures that personnel are properly trained to perform their primary functions independently, and that personnel are cross-trained for maximum flexibility.
  • Hires and terminates employees and takes disciplinary action, as appropriate.
  • Analyzes and resolves personnel problems.
  • Reviews and verifies employee time sheets to ensure that hours are reported properly.
  • Ensures that production is managed in a way that maximizes all equipment and ensures that down times and excess labor costs are minimized.
  • Works closely with the Operations Manager on scheduling of production. Makes adjustments to scheduling for a more efficient workflow and to meet deadlines.
  • Ensures that the facility and equipment are always in a clean, orderly condition.
  • Plans and approves maintenance work.
  • Determines amount of necessary resources (workforce, raw materials etc.) for production.
  • Ensures that monthly and yearly inventories are completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that quality controls are used in the production process and that output meets quality standards.
  • Coordinates workflow so that other Divisions of the Company receive quality products in a timely fashion.
  • Implements process improvements to improve production efficiencies.
  • Implements lean manufacturing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Experience directly supervising people in an industrial manufacturing environment (minimum 10 years required).
  • Ability to motivate individuals to achieve high production rates.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be willing to work overtime, including Saturdays, if needed.
  • Must be willing to work in a hot environment in the summertime.


WORK HOURS

The regular workweek for this position is 40 hours. The schedule will normally be Monday through Friday, 6:30 am through 3:10 pm, with 40 minutes off for lunch each day.

Some overtime work on Saturdays or weekdays may be required. HOWEVER, no overtime work is guaranteed, either on Saturdays or through the workweek.
