Job description

Laser Tracker Operator | 3D Metrology Technician | Precision Metrology

Location: Rockford, IL

Job Type: Full-Time | Hourly

Pay: $25–$35/hour

Hands-On Laser Tracker Experience Required

Lean Synergy Solutions is seeking an experienced Laser Tracker Operator / 3D Metrology Technician for a precision manufacturing environment in Rockford, IL.

This is not a general Quality Inspector position. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience operating FARO or Leica laser trackers and using SpatialAnalyzer (SA) to perform dimensional inspection, alignment, and verification of large and complex manufactured components.

You will work directly with Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Assembly teams to verify large components against engineering drawings and 3D CAD specifications.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have:

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience operating FARO or Leica laser trackers

  • Experience using SpatialAnalyzer (SA) for inspection, measurement, programming, or reporting

  • Experience performing dimensional metrology / precision measurement

  • Strong blueprint and engineering drawing interpretation

  • Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)

  • Experience working from 2D drawings and 3D CAD models

  • Experience creating or modifying laser tracker inspection programs

  • Experience generating inspection reports

  • High school diploma or GED

  • U.S. Citizen or valid Permanent Resident (Green Card)

Important

Laser tracker experience must be hands-on metrology experience.

Experience operating a laser cutting machine, laser welding equipment, or other industrial laser equipment does NOT satisfy the laser tracker requirement.

Candidates who have only assisted another technician or OEM representative with a laser tracker, without personally operating the equipment, may not meet the requirements.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Operate FARO or Leica laser trackers to verify manufactured and purchased components

  • Perform dimensional inspection against engineering drawings, specifications, and 3D CAD data

  • Create inspection programs using SpatialAnalyzer (SA)

  • Generate detailed inspection reports and measurement documentation

  • Provide real-time measurement data to manufacturing and assembly teams for alignment and adjustment

  • Support machine and component alignment activities

  • Mark up raw and semi-finished components for finish-machining operations

  • Identify dimensional deviations and nonconforming conditions

  • Support nonconformance documentation and root-cause investigations

  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final dimensional verification

  • Perform basic maintenance, calibration checks, and field checks on laser tracker equipment

  • Work closely with Quality, Engineering, Machining, and Assembly personnel

IDEAL CANDIDATE BACKGROUNDS

Strong candidates may have experience as a:

  • Laser Tracker Operator

  • Laser Tracker Technician

  • 3D Metrology Technician

  • Metrology Technician

  • Field Metrology Technician

  • Dimensional Inspector

  • Precision Metrologist

  • Quality Technician – Laser Tracker

  • CMM / Laser Tracker Technician

  • Dimensional Measurement Technician

  • 3D Measurement Technician

  • Manufacturing Metrologist

Candidates from aerospace, defense, precision machining, large-format manufacturing, machine tools, heavy fabrication, nuclear, or advanced manufacturing environments are especially relevant.

TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Must-have:

FARO Laser Tracker, Leica Laser Tracker, SpatialAnalyzer, SA, laser tracker inspection, dimensional metrology, precision measurement, GD&T, blueprint reading, CAD inspection, 3D CAD, inspection programming, dimensional inspection, alignment, inspection reports.

Strongly preferred:

PC-DMIS, CMM, FARO Arm, laser scanning, photogrammetry, CAD-based inspection, quality assurance, first article inspection, in-process inspection, calibration, root cause analysis, nonconformance reporting.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a hands-on manufacturing and metrology position. The work requires the ability to:

  • Lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Climb ladders repeatedly

  • Stand, walk, sit, crouch, and crawl for extended periods

  • Work on large components and equipment

  • Work overtime as required

  • Operate around manufacturing equipment and on the shop floor

Forklift, scissor lift, and crane operation experience is helpful; training can be provided.

WHY THIS OPPORTUNITY

This is an opportunity to perform precision metrology on large, complex manufactured components, rather than routine small-part inspection. The Laser Tracker Operator plays a critical role in verifying dimensional accuracy and supporting alignment and final acceptance of major components.
