This Farm Field Hand is responsible for executing the daily functions needed to meet the farm's agricultural production, aesthetic, and project goals. Individuals in this role will provide the bulk of the Cypress Creek Farm's skilled operational and general labor needs. Farm Field Hands will also lead and facilitate farm-focused activities to guest such as Farm Tours and Chicken Keeping . Some additional responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: cultivating, planting, watering, fertilization, weeding, harvesting, packing, animal care, record keeping, operation of machinery (heavy and small), construction, upkeep, and general repairs of the farm. Finally, individuals in this role will be responsible for maintaining our Equine facility - keeping it clean and neat, as well as assisting with feeding, delivering supplements, and ensuring horses are watered adequately. This will also include assisting with preparing horses for activities, helping keep our tack room clean and organized, and assisting with landscaping around the ranch/farm. This position is Seasonal but has the potential to move to Full Time at the end of the season.
Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will possess the ability to:
  • Operate mechanical cultivation equipment including tractors and tractor-drawn implements
  • Utilize long and short handled tools for bed preparation, transplanting, weed maintenance, etc.
  • Apply field preparations for organic growing strategies and fertilization
  • Operate and repair irrigation systems for variable crops
  • Plant crops, herbs, and perennials either directly or in seedling/transplant form as well as mix soil and seed transplants in the greenhouse
  • Scout and communicate any disease, weed, or insect pressures
  • Harvest, sort, store, package, and prepare produce and medicinal herbs to specifications
  • Propagate, prune, irrigate, train, harvest perennial crop and herbs
  • Maintain farmscape areas (wildflower beds, apiary, food forests, etc.)
  • Perform tasks related to poultry care, including daily feeding, quarterly coop cleaning, cleaning and sanitizing of water troughs, pest scouting, etc.
  • Lead educational tours that delve into organic and regenerative agriculture, soil science, integrated pest management, animal husbandry and farm integration strategies.
  • Lead hands-on classes that cover the life cycle and needs of chicken to guests, colleagues or customers
  • To groom an arena and keep it level as well as build, repair and maintain horse fencing
  • Basic riding and horse handling experience preferred but not required
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Must be able to lift, push and pull at least 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, sun and dust for extended period of time
