How much do per diem farm hand jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 14, 2026, the average hourly pay for per diem farm hand in the United States is $18.55, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.42 and $19.23 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does a typical workday look like for a Per Diem Farm Hand, and how flexible are the hours?

As a Per Diem Farm Hand, your daily responsibilities may vary depending on the farm's immediate needs, but often include tasks like feeding animals, cleaning stalls, planting, harvesting, and general maintenance. The role is typically scheduled on an as-needed basis, allowing for flexible hours that can accommodate other commitments. However, you can expect early morning starts and some physically demanding work, especially during busy seasons. Collaboration with other farm staff is common, ensuring that all essential tasks are covered efficiently.

What are Per Diem Farm Hands?

Per Diem Farm Hands are agricultural workers who are hired on an as-needed, day-to-day basis to assist with various farm tasks. Their responsibilities can include planting, harvesting, feeding animals, cleaning equipment, and general farm maintenance. Unlike full-time employees, per diem farm hands have flexible schedules and may work only during peak seasons or when extra help is required. This arrangement allows both the farm and the worker to maintain flexibility in their commitments.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Per Diem Farm Hand positions typically do not pay $2000 a day; such high daily rates are uncommon in agricultural work. Jobs that can pay this amount daily usually involve specialized skills, high-level consulting, executive roles, or certain freelance professions, but they are rarely found in farm work. Earning $2000 daily generally requires advanced expertise, certifications, or working in high-paying industries outside of farming.

What kind of jobs pay per diem?

Per diem jobs are temporary or short-term positions that pay a daily rate rather than a fixed salary or hourly wage. These jobs are common in fields like healthcare, hospitality, and agriculture, including roles such as farm hands, nurses, or hotel staff, often requiring flexible schedules and specific certifications or skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Per Diem Farm Hand, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Per Diem Farm Hand, you need basic knowledge of farm operations, physical stamina, and the ability to follow safety procedures, often requiring previous experience or on-the-job training. Familiarity with tools like tractors, irrigation systems, and basic mechanical equipment is typically important. Dependability, strong work ethic, and effective communication help you stand out in this role. These skills ensure efficient farm operations, safety, and the ability to adapt to the varied tasks required in agricultural settings.

What is the difference between Per Diem Farm Hand vs Farm Worker?

AspectPer Diem Farm HandFarm Worker
CredentialsNone required, on-the-job training commonTypically none, may have basic agricultural experience
Work EnvironmentVaries daily, often short-term or on a daily basisConsistent farm settings, seasonal or year-round
Employer UsageUsed for short-term, temporary, or as-needed laborEmployed directly by farms for ongoing tasks

Per Diem Farm Hands are usually hired for short-term, temporary work without formal credentials, often on a daily basis. Farm Workers tend to have more consistent employment, with ongoing roles on farms. Both roles operate in agricultural environments, but their employment terms and expectations differ.

What is the highest paying farm job?

Per Diem farm hands typically earn hourly wages that vary based on experience, location, and the complexity of tasks. Higher-paying farm jobs often include specialized roles such as farm managers, crop consultants, or positions requiring technical skills and certifications, which can offer significantly higher compensation than entry-level labor roles.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A per diem farm hand typically does not earn $10,000 a month without specialized skills or extensive experience. High earnings in farming or agricultural roles usually require advanced expertise, management responsibilities, or working in high-value specialty crops, but such income levels are uncommon without formal education or certifications. Most jobs paying that much without a degree are in sales, entrepreneurship, or skilled trades rather than farm work.
