Job description

Who You Are

As ourApplication Engineeryou will provide engineering expertise and guidance of all aspects of the application of FFA CNC system products to support OEM and end users in the purchase and integration of FANUC systems. You will work with customers from initial project development through follow-up support, grow sales and market share of FFA products at assigned accounts.

This is remote position, reporting to our Hoffman Estates, IL office. You will be supporting customers throughout Western New York and Ontario, including key areas such as Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, and the Greater Toronto/Hamilton region. You will either need to reside within a commutable distance of these territories or be willing to relocate to a centrally located area.

How It's Done

  • Serve as technical lead at assigned OEM/MTB/Retrofitter accounts by:
    • Suggesting CNC products to meet customer specifications
    • Supporting commissioning of CNC products for customer's application
  • Provide application and marketing support at end-user accounts by:
    • Providing application support on existing CNC products
    • Promoting FFA CNC products for key retrofit/new machine projects
  • Provide technical application assistance and support to Sales Engineers and prospective customers by:
    • Assisting with pre-installation technical discussion and recommendations - identify technical needs of customers
    • Accompanying sales engineer on prospective site meetings
    • Configuring complete systems to determine best technical solution for controls, servos and features
    • Developing BOM (bill of materials)
    • Providing new ideas and strategies for the application of CNC products in and outside of the machine tool industry
  • Assist the marketing & business development team to promote FFA products by:
    • Create technical presentations and white papers
    • Attend trade shows and give technical presentations
  • Support the Engineering Team and overall business goals by:
    • Providing required reports that highlight major customer activities together with brief hourly breakdown
    • Keeping manager aware of any difficult customer issues
    • Updating and maintaining Application Engineering calendar with their whereabouts when not working from the office
  • Support follow Application Engineering Team members by:
    • Writing Application Engineering reports and share findings on first time use of new products and functions
    • Providing product feedback and new product development requests to FANUC Japan as required
    • Liaise with FANUC Japan through formal technical questions only when issues cannot be resolved locally using existing documentation resources
    • Pass on new product knowledge to peers through internal, external and on-site training
  • Ability to travel at least 50% by plane or car domestically with possible international travel

What You Need

  • High School Diploma
  • 3 or more years of engineering experience within manufacturing, automation, or machine tool industry setting
  • Valid driver's license and passport, along with the ability to travel approximately 50%-by both land and air-to customer sites throughout the U.S. and Canada
  • Knowledge of FANUC CNC products, including CNC controls, servos, spindles, and software tools such as FAPT Ladder, FANUC Picture, Manual Guide i, MacroExecutor, FOCAS development, and related applications
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering principles, application development, and manufacturing processes, with emphasis on CNC, PLC, and servo systems
  • Ability to effectively present ideas and solutions to audiences ranging from machine tool operators to upperlevel management
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and customers, ensuring timely followthrough and closure
  • Strong commercial mindset with technical sales skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a related field
  • Three or more years of engineering experience within manufacturing, automation, or machine tool industry setting

FANUC American is seeking a qualified applicant for the Application Engineer position. The pay range for this position is $81,120 - $130,874 per year. The pay range listed is based on both salary and other compensation, including bonuses and profit sharing, that an employee may be paid during their employment with FANUC America. Benefits include medical insurance, 401k savings, paid vacation, vision insurance, dental insurance, tuition reimbursements, disability insurance, life insurance, and paid holidays. A compensation package offered to a successful applicant will ultimately be determined by consideration of a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, an applicant's geographic location, educational attainment, and level of experience.
