Vera's Family and Children Wellness Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Licensed Mental Health Counselor to provide comprehensive mental health services to children and adolescents in a remote setting. Vera's Family and Children Wellness Center is a leading community health clinic located in Islip, New York, dedicated to supporting the mental health needs of children and families. • Conduct thorough mental health assessments for children and adolescents to identify their psychological needs, strengths, and challenges.
• Create and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that are developmentally appropriate and take into account family dynamics.
• Provide therapeutic interventions, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, play therapy, and family therapy, to address various mental health issues effectively.
• Facilitate family therapy sessions to engage and educate parents and caregivers on fostering supportive environments at home.
• Collaborate closely with child psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals to ensure cohesive treatment approaches and continuity of care.
• Offer crisis intervention during mental health emergencies, enabling children and adolescents to receive immediate support.
• Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, available treatment options, and community resources to enhance their understanding and empower their choices.
• Maintain detailed and confidential documentation of patient interactions and treatment progress in compliance with all legal and ethical standards.
• Participate in regular team meetings, case reviews, and professional development activities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
• Stay up to date with current research, policies, and innovations in child and adolescent mental health care to improve your practice.

The primary clientele for this role includes children and adolescents facing various mental health challenges. You will work with a diverse demographic, encompassing various socioeconomic backgrounds and therapeutic needs. This position demands an empathetic approach as you help young individuals navigate their mental health journeys while supporting their families in the process.

• A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution is required.
• Must hold a current license as either an LCSW, LCSW-R, LMHC, or LMFT in New York State.
• Two years of post-licensure experience in clinical practice, particularly within children's mental health, is required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of child and adolescent mental health disorders along with evidence-based therapeutic modalities.
• Experience with delivering individual and family therapy interventions targeting young clients.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, showcasing a child-centered, compassionate approach.
• Aptitude for establishing rapport and trust with children, adolescents, and their families.
• Strong proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and relevant computer applications is essential.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams within a healthcare setting.

While two years of post-licensure experience is required, candidates with additional experience in specialized areas such as trauma-informed care, developmental disorders, or crisis intervention will be viewed favorably. Familiarity with remote therapy practices and telehealth platforms is also preferred.
