Northrop Grumman is in need of a Designer 1 to work at its Elkton, Maryland or Palm Beach Gardens, Florida facilities.

Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Job Summary

Under supervision of senior Designers, the entry level Designer performs a variety of routine activities of the CAD Modeling and Drafting group including preparing and updating drawings to company and industry standards in disciplines such as mechanical and electronics engineering for product, manufacturing, test, and tooling design and drafting for solid rocket and air breathing propulsion systems.

Candidate must be able to carefully follow verbal and written instructions and quickly adapt to processes and practices including CADD and PLM systems used in a fast paced environment. Candidate must also be able to work thoroughly and accurately and be comfortable working extended periods of time at a work station. Above all, the candidate must have a strong willingness to learn and interact with engineering staff to contribute design solutions and drawing and/or model creation.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Drafting and modeling
    • Minor components
    • Portions of systems
    • Modifications to existing designs to improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
  • Modify drawings utilizing computer-aided design software (Currently Siemens NX & PTC CREO)
  • Perform necessary calculations for basic sizing of part interfaces
  • Coordinate design criteria with other designers, engineering, manufacturing, and tooling.
  • Gather information

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years CADD training
  • Familiar in use of CADD software, 3D modeling and 2D drawings
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance, which US citizenship is a requirement

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years post-secondary high school education in CADD
  • Familiar with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)
  • Familiar with ASME drawing standards
  • Previous work experience as a designer
Primary Level Salary Range: $46,700.00 - $77,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
