Job description

Encorus Group is seeking a full-time Fire Protection Designer for our Springville or Depew office. In this role, you will support the design, drafting, and development of water-based fire protection systems, including fire sprinkler and standpipe systems. You will be responsible for preparing detailed drawings, performing hydraulic calculations, and coordinating designs with internal teams and external partners to ensure compliance with applicable codes and project requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare detailed fire protection system layout drawings using AutoCAD or other drafting software.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations for water-based fire protection systems.
  • Develop system designs including pipe sizing, routing, and component selection.
  • Review architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings to coordinate fire protection system layouts.
  • Apply applicable codes and standards (e.g., NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20) to all design work.
  • Assist in the preparation of submittal packages, including drawings, calculations, and material data.
  • Revise and update drawings based on redlines, design changes, and coordination feedback.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and other design professionals to ensure project requirements and deadlines are met.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and drawing files in accordance with company standards.
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience in fire protection system design and drafting.
  • NICET Certification in Water-Based Systems Layout (Level I or II preferred, or ability to obtain).
  • Working knowledge of NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20) and applicable building/fire codes.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar drafting software (Revit experience preferred).
  • Experience performing hydraulic calculations for fire protection systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associateโ€™s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Maintain a valid driverโ€™s license and operate a motor vehicle as required for work assignments.
  • Must be able to comply with company drug screening, including pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check, in accordance with client requirements.
