Job description

TITLE:  Production Support B

POSITION OBJECTIVE: The primary focus of this position is to assist in, or manage, technical projects directly or indirectly related to the Extrusion department and the manufacturing processes.  The two main manufacturing processes are blown film extrusion and in-line printing.  This position also supports the introduction of new products, processes and equipment as well as machine and process upgrades.   By utilizing and conducting TPMs and process improvements, this position will optimize the production of current products.  As a member of the team, this employee will assist in process and equipment engineering projects to support existing operations and implementing improvements. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three-year production experience of Extrusion processes
  • Knowledge of general manufacturing
  • Strong organizational skills, able to handle multiple tasks
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, shifts, or overtime as needed.
  • Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary.
  • Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interaction

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with startup and shutdown of extrusion lines to ensure stable processing conditions and minimal scrap generation.
  • Monitor extrusion parameters (temperatures, pressures, speeds, resin flow) and make approved adjustments to maintain product specifications.
  • Support troubleshooting of quality defects such as gauge variation, gels, die lines, contamination, or surface defects.
  • Perform routine inspections of dies, screens, barrels, screws, heaters, thermocouples, and cooling systems to identify early signs of wear or failure.
  • Assist maintenance and engineering during corrective repairs, rebuilds, or equipment upgrades.
  • Support resin trials, material changes, and validation runs, including documentation of results and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for process settings, test runs, TPM activities, and changeovers.
  • Assist in developing, updating, and standardizing extrusion SOPs, SOCs, and setup sheets.
  • Provide on-the-job training and technical guidance to operators during normal production and changeovers.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action efforts related to downtime, safety incidents, or quality deviations.
  • Ensure housekeeping and 5S standards are maintained around extrusion equipment and support areas.
  • Verify safety devices, guards, and interlocks are in place and functioning properly prior to startup.
  • Support compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements related to extrusion operations.
  • Participate in kaizen events, audits, and cross-functional improvement teams as assigned.
  • Act as a technical resource during off-shifts or non-standard hours as needed
