Job description

Apply today to be a Extruder Operator with one of the most innovative and trusted packaging companies. Printpack is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Extruder Operator for the Converting plant in Grand Prairie, TX. The Extruder Operator is responsible for operating and managing extrusion equipment to produce high-quality products while meeting production standards, maintaining safety protocols, and ensuring customer satisfaction. This role includes providing directions to assistant operators and maintaining efficient production processes while adhering to quality and safety standards. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who can maintain high-quality standards and work efficiently in a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, leadership abilities, and excellent communication capabilities. This position reports to the Shift Supervisor. This will be a 3/2 rotating night shift schedule from 7pm-7am: Sun/Wed/Thurs; Mon/Tues/Fri/Sat.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate extrusion equipment to meet quality, waste, and production standards

  • Responsible for working with and training assistant operators in essential job functions

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures

  • Monitor and maintain product quality to meet customer expectations

  • Coordinate with other departments for mechanical issues and material concerns

  • Accurately report production data through Prism system

  • Manage material handling and preparation processes

  • Oversee cleaning and maintenance procedures

  • Oversee and perform roll changing and splicing operations

  • Maintain resin inventory and equipment cleanliness

  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

  • Previous manufacturing experience preferred

Required Skills:

  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities

  • Ability to read and use measuring tools accurately

Physical Demands: The associate will be exposed to the manufacturing environment where hazards and requirements may include but are not limited to:

  • Must be able to lift and handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods

  • Ability to climb, kneel, bend, stoop, reach and squat

  • Proficiency in grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine motor skills

  • Use of ladders and other equipment

  • Forklift Certified or ability to become forklift and pallet jack certified

  • Ability to wear required PPE (hearing protection, steel-toe shoes, safety glasses)

Work Conditions: The majority of tasks will be performed in a manufacturing setting with exposure to:

  • Noise levels above 80 dB

  • Operation of complex machinery

  • Solvents, fumes and inks

  • Variable Temperatures

  • Ability to work from heights

  • Must be able to work flexible shifts

  • May require nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • An additional $2.50/hr premium for NIGHT Shift only between the hours of 7pm-7am. Any hours worked outside of 7pm-7am will not receive the premium

Additional Internal Requirements:

  • Must demonstrate Core Values

  • Must be in good standing with no disciplinary action or attendance issues(Associates in Written or higher stage of counseling are not eligible to apply)

  • Must have performer or higher rating in last review

  • Demonstrated sense of urgency in production recovery situations
