Position Overview:

The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) is seeking a motivated candidate to serve as the External Audit Liaison on a Personal Services Contract located in Sangamon County. The incumbent for this position will be under the direction of the Chief Internal Auditor and serve as the primary liaison between the agency and external auditors. The incumbent will also coordinate audit activities and provide guidance to agency staff throughout the audit process. Essential Functions:
  • Under the direction of the Chief Internal Auditor serves as the primary liaison between the agency and external auditors (e.g. Office of Auditor General, Other Federal and State Oversight Entities).
  • Coordinates audit activities and provides guidance to agency staff throughout the audit process.
  • Participates in audit walkthroughs, interviews, and reviews to ensure accurate representation of agency operations.
  • Monitors audit progress and communicates status updates to leadership.
  • Reviews audit findings and supports development of management responses and corrective action plans.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications:

Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in business administration, accounting, auditing, public administration, or a related field, and five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in one or more of the following areas: auditing; analyzing policies, laws, rules, or regulations; managing complex engagements or projects; or gathering, analyzing, and verifying data and evidence;

Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college with coursework in business administration, accounting, auditing, public administration, or a related field, and seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience in one or more of the following areas: auditing; analyzing policies, laws, rules, or regulations; managing complex engagements or projects; or gathering, analyzing, and verifying data and evidence;

Requires ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional experience in one or more of the following areas: auditing; analyzing policies, laws, rules, or regulations; managing complex engagements or projects; or gathering, analyzing, and verifying data and evidence.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance):
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel or equivalent.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years' experience with audit liaison activities.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years of coordinating multiple projects.
  • Prefers the ability to perform duties in a professional, efficient and ethical manner and to maintain the confidentiality of the information gathered during an audit.

About the Agency:

The mission of the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) is to build youth skills and strengthen families by promoting community safety and positive youth outcomes. Over 900 staff members from across various departments-security, programming, education, mental health, and more-collaborate with the understanding that youth are physically, emotionally, and cognitively different from adults. The department provides extensive services to young people through a developmental, treatment-focused model of care that builds youth resiliency, engages families, and promotes community safety at the five youth facilities it operates across the state. IDJJ serves and houses approximately 150 youth and is responsible for approximately 500 youth on Aftercare in various Illinois' communities.
