How much do experience design jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 12, 2026, the average yearly pay for experience design in the United States is $116,016.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $116,500.00 and $116,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Is UX getting replaced by AI?

Experience Design professionals focus on creating user-centered digital experiences, and AI tools are increasingly used to support this work by automating tasks like user research and prototyping. However, AI currently complements rather than replaces UX roles, as human insight and empathy remain essential for understanding user needs and designing effective solutions.

Can a UX designer make 300k?

Senior UX designers with extensive experience, specialized skills, and leadership roles can reach or exceed a $300,000 annual salary, especially in high-cost-of-living areas or within large tech companies. Achieving this level often requires advanced expertise, a strong portfolio, and sometimes managerial responsibilities or consulting work.

Is UX design harder than coding?

Experience design and coding are different skill sets; UX design focuses on user research, interaction, and visual layout, while coding involves programming languages and technical implementation. Both require specialized knowledge and can be challenging depending on individual strengths and project complexity.

What does an experience designer do?

An experience designer creates and improves user experiences for digital or physical products by understanding user needs and behaviors. They use research, design tools, and prototyping to develop intuitive interfaces and interactions that enhance customer satisfaction and engagement.

How does an Experience Design professional typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

Experience Design professionals often work closely with product managers, developers, marketers, and researchers throughout a project’s lifecycle. They facilitate workshops, gather stakeholder input, and ensure user needs remain central to the design process. Effective collaboration involves frequent communication, iterative feedback sessions, and clear documentation to align everyone toward a shared vision. This collaborative structure helps create cohesive, user-centric products that meet both business and user goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Experience Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Experience Designer, you need a strong grasp of user-centered design principles, visual design, prototyping, and a relevant degree in design or a related field. Proficiency with tools like Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and usability testing platforms is commonly required. Exceptional communication, collaboration, and creative problem-solving skills help set standout Experience Designers apart. These skills are crucial for creating engaging, effective user experiences that meet business goals and delight end users.

What is experience design?

Experience design is a multidisciplinary approach focused on creating meaningful and relevant experiences for users when they interact with a product, service, or system. It involves understanding user needs, behaviors, and emotions to design seamless, enjoyable, and effective touchpoints across digital and physical environments. Experience designers use research, prototyping, and testing to ensure that every aspect of the user journey is thoughtful and user-centered, ultimately enhancing satisfaction and engagement.

What is the difference between Experience Design vs User Experience Designer?

AspectExperience DesignUser Experience Designer

SkillsDesign thinking, storytelling, service designUser research, wireframing, interaction design
Work EnvironmentDesign agencies, corporate branding, service industriesTech companies, app and website development

Experience Design encompasses creating comprehensive, multi-channel experiences, often involving branding and service elements. User Experience Designer focuses specifically on digital interfaces and usability. While both roles require design skills and user research, Experience Design has a broader scope, integrating physical and digital touchpoints, whereas User Experience Designers primarily optimize digital products.

Job description

About Brightway

Established in 2008, Brightway is proud to be one of the fastest-growing insurance agency systems in the United States. With over 350 franchises spanning 35+ states and an impressive $1.3 billion in annual premiums, we rank among the nation’s largest privately owned property and casualty insurance distribution companies. We support our agency owners with comprehensive back-office services, marketing resources, and continuous learning and development.

We are embarking on the next stage of our customer-centric growth, driven by innovation from our talented associates and the application of cutting-edge technologies. This growth has opened doors for creative thinkers who thrive in a diverse and collaborative culture. As a Brightway team member, you'll engage in exciting projects that are reshaping the industry, working alongside a dedicated team committed to delivering exceptional customer service and safeguarding our clients' most valuable assets.

Scope

As the Design Lead at Brightway you have an exciting opportunity to guide our growing UX team working on experiences for insurance agents, customer service advisors, and Brightway customers. Here at Brightway we are expanding our digital capabilities and maturing our design culture to drive growth and facilitate delightful experiences for all the humans in the ecosystem.

We are seeking a talented, hands-on design leader who loves to design, is energized by lifting up the designers around them, and is excited about reshaping how design gets done in an AI-native world. This is a pivotal moment for our craft: we are shifting from Figma-centric specs toward AI-assisted, prototype-first ways of working, and from pixel-perfect mockups toward thoughtfully designed AI-enabled product experiences. The Design Lead will be at the center of that shift — both as a practitioner modeling the new workflows and as a coach helping the team adopt them.

Job Responsibilities:

· Lead by example as a hands-on designer — own the most impactful UX work end-to-end and set the standard for what "good" looks like at Brightway.

· Guide a small team of full-time designers and contractors through mentorship, design critiques, and clear quality bars.

· Model and champion an AI-first prototyping practice, and help the team evolve from Figma-centric specs to prototype-led workflows.

· Thoughtfully weave AI-enabled capabilities into experiences for agents, advisors, and customers — raising the bar for usefulness and trust, and steering the team away from gratuitous or low-quality AI patterns.

· Partner with product managers, engineers, and business leaders to evolve and execute UX strategy across the Brightway product and service ecosystem.

· Steward and evolve the design system, including how it adapts as the team shifts toward AI-assisted prototyping and AI-native product patterns.

· Validate ideas with end users and measure the impact of design decisions on user behavior and business outcomes.

Skills

· Deep understanding of human-centered design processes, methods, and qualitative research practices.

· Strong hands-on craft in common prototyping tools

· Active, hands-on use of AI-assisted design and prototyping tools (e.g. Claude, v0, Lovable, Cursor, or comparable), with a clear point of view on when AI earns its place in a workflow and when it just adds noise.

· Experience mentoring designers and running design critiques.

· Commitment to designing for accessibility.

· Track record of driving consistency through design systems, and a view on how those systems evolve alongside AI-assisted workflows.

· A portfolio showcasing your prior work — bonus points for AI-assisted prototypes or shipped AI-enabled features.

Education and Experience

· Bachelor's degree preferred.

· At least 6 years of UX design experience, including at least 1 year leading or mentoring other designers.

· Demonstrated curiosity about — and hands-on experience with — emerging AI design tooling, ideally with a track record of bringing new practices into a team and helping others adopt them.

· Experience in insurance technology or designing a CRM.

· Familiarity and enthusiasm for Lean and Agile practices.

· Experience with atomic design and Figma-based design systems (components, tokens, dev mode, etc).
