Your Opportunity: Taylor Print & Visual Impressions, a division of Taylor Corporation, is looking for a Design Engineer to come onboard in the Portland area! The Design Engineer supports the centralized R&D / Product Development group by engineering custom experiential, retail, and event display solutions. This role is responsible for translating conceptual designs into structurally sound and manufacturable builds across applications including retail casework displays, POP fixtures, branded environments, exhibit structures, and architectural signage.
This position works cross-functionally with Sales, Creative, Manufacturing, and Prototyping teams to develop innovative custom solutions that support revenue opportunities while ensuring feasibility, cost efficiency, and installation readiness.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Engineer custom retail and experiential display structures
  • Design event and trade show environments, including booth frameworks and branded installations
  • Develop POP displays, corrugated structures, and retail merchandising builds
  • Engineer retail casework and fixture systems, including shelving, cabinetry, and branded display units
  • Support design of millwork-integrated retail environments and store fixtures
  • Create structural solutions for architectural signage and dimensional brand elements
  • Develop designs incorporating metal fabrication, tube structures, and extrusion frameworks
  • Produce fabrication-ready CAD models, shop drawings, and assembly documentation
  • Evaluate materials, including wood, laminates, metals, composites, and hybrid substrates
  • Design for manufacturability across CNC routing, metal fabrication, and finishing processes
  • Collaborate with Corrugate and Prototype Engineers on integrated builds
  • Support prototype development, testing, and installation validation
  • Ensure designs align with manufacturing capabilities across production sites
  • Provide technical support for sales-driven custom opportunities

You Must Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design Engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in structural design, display engineering, or fixture design
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks strongly preferred)
  • Experience designing retail fixtures, casework, or experiential displays
  • Understanding of fabrication methods, including metal, extrusion, and rigid substrates
  • Knowledge of manufacturing tolerances and assembly methods

We Would Prefer:
  • Experience in trade show, event marketing, or retail display industries
  • Familiarity with retail casework, millwork, or store fixture systems
  • Knowledge of sheet metal design, tube bending, or welded structures
  • Experience integrating lighting, graphics, and branded elements into fixtures
  • Familiarity with CNC routing, laser cutting, or metal fabrication workflows
  • Exposure to architectural signage or dimensional branding elements

The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $80,000 - $95,000. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The range listed is just one component of Taylor Corporation's total compensation and benefits package for employees.
