The work programs leverage a diverse set of technical disciplines from within the Department and across the corporation to maximize our impact in solving some of the Army's toughest modernization challenges in the areas of systems engineering, agile software development, test and evaluation, digital engineering, autonomous systems, and training. Job Description: The Army Soldier and Weapons Systems Department is seeking a high-performing Senior Software Engineer with a deep understanding of Systems Engineering to lead modernization efforts for Modeling and Simulation capabilities. This role will support Wargaming, Combat Effects, and Campaign Analysis for CPE ST3 and other government organizations. Successful candidates will work closely with senior government civilian and military leaders to define and execute MITRE's work. The candidate must work with a multiple disciplinary development team and work with industry to integrate capabilities. Roles and Responsibilities: * Apply expertise in Modeling, Simulation, and Software Engineering to develop, integrate, assess, and analyze advanced simulation capabilities for training, analysis, and mission planning/rehearsal.
* Work within multiple disciplinary development teams:
* Develop, make recommendations, and implement software engineering changes.
* Deliver strategy and recommendations to deliver optimal technical performance through the application of software engineering principles and best practices.
* Recognize technical challenges and lead engineering activities to deliver appropriate solutions
* Identify and articulate program risks and associated opportunities.
* Establishing strong relationships within the sponsor organization.
* Collaborate with sponsors and industry partners to define technical roadmaps, establish strategic goals, and align development with high-priority outcomes.
* Drive the adoption of modern software engineering practices, agile methodologies, and DevSecOps within multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
* Author technical reports, deliver executive-level briefings, and persuasively articulate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders. Basic Qualifications: * Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
* Technical background in disciplines of relevance in one or more of the following: Full-Stack Software Development; Modeling and Simulation); Development/Security/Operations (DevSecOps); and/or Model-Based Systems Engineering.
* Strong proficiency in multiple modern programming languages (e.g., C++, C#, Python, Rust, or Java) and advanced software design patterns.
* Demonstrated ability and desire to quickly learn and apply new technologies.
* Experience utilizing systems engineering processes to design, analyze, and integrate complex hardware/software systems or system-of-systems architectures, identify operational and recommend effective mitigations.
* Demonstrated experience with software development efforts and yielding impactful results at high levels of government and/or industry.
* Proven experience engaging sponsors with successful impacts and outcomes and establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships.
* Established track record in leading the delivery of data-driven technical products with the military warfighting domain, resulting in positive mission impact.
* Demonstrated ability to take risks and lead work with partial insights, and operate effectively autonomously.
* Critical thinking, analytic, and problem-solving skills - comfortable working in dynamic settings where task objectives may evolve or need to be shaped, or creative solutions to task impediments must be identified.
* Must have an active Secret U.S Government issued Security Clearance. Per the U.S. Government's eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance. * This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site. Preferred Qualifications: * An advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Game Development.
* Active TS/SCI Clearance
* Experience with development of military simulations, including discrete event and Monte Carlo simulation techniques.
* Hands-on skills in at least one and ideally multiple modern programming languages (e.g., Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, C/C++, C#, Python, Go, or Rust).
* Web application development experience, particularly for delivering simulation, visualization, or decision-support tools via modern web frameworks.
* Experience processing and integrating geospatial data into modeling and simulation environments.
* Experience designing and optimizing 3D assets and workflows for game development, including creating models with industry-standard 3D tools and integrating them into real-time game engines.
* Strong understanding of Agile values and principles and how to apply them pragmatically in different contexts.
* Excellent interpersonal and technical communication skills, with the ability to author technical reports, present briefings, and persuasively speak to audiences of all backgrounds, including executives or senior customers.
* Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment, establish and leverage a diverse professional network, and integrate contributions from a variety of resources (people, tools, organizations).
* Experience in removing impediments, shielding teams from unnecessary distractions, and fostering self-management.
* Prior experience developing or assessing Army systems or operations, reflected by:
* Working knowledge of Army organizations, missions, roles/responsibilities, and relationships.
* At least 5 years of experience working across Army organizations with an expert-level understanding on Software Engineering. This requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s):
