SUMMARY OF POSITION:

This is an onsite position with the possibility of hybrid

The Pharmacy Insurance Authorization Specialist must demonstrate clinical expertise in handling complex therapies, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing patient-centered care. The position plays a vital role in managing high-risk, high-cost medications, ensuring that patients receive timely access to therapies while maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficacy. The Pharmacy Insurance Authorization Specialist drives our medication procurement queues and assists patients, physicians and pharmacists in the completion of: claim adjudication/review, benefit investigations, financial assistance applications, refill/adherence activities, and other programs that drive optimal outcomes for Penn State Health Pharmacy patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Two (2) years of experience in Prior Authorizations in either a Pharmacy or a Clinical setting required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Pharmacy technician or Pharmacy billing experience with Insurers and Third Party payers preferred.
