Job Title: Director of Manufacturing

Type: FT, Exempt

Job Summary:

The Director of Manufacturing is responsible for leading and scaling manufacturing operations across multiple scientific and regulated production sites. This role ensures consistent, compliant, and efficient production while driving standardization, operational excellence, and alignment across geographically dispersed facilities. The Director partners closely with Executive leaders Sales, R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Supply Chain to deliver high-quality products in complex scientific environments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute multi-site manufacturing strategy
  • Oversee the manufacturing process across multiple sites
  • Balance production loads and optimize costs
  • Maintain adequate supply of raw materials and work-in-process inventory
  • Ensure regulatory compliance (FDA, ISO, USDA, etc.)
  • Improve production processes to enhance quality (CQI) and profitability
  • Manage budgets, capital planning, and capacity strategy across sites
  • Improvise and adapt as necessary to overcome production obstacles
  • Interact with regulatory entities for product lot approval and as necessary
  • Liaise with research to facilitate technology transfer and process scale up
  • Administer performance management program for production department
  • Administer training program for production employees
  • Track and manage to key performance indicators
  • As a managerial role, interviews, hires, and trains new staff; assigns work or projects; provides constructive and ongoing feedback and coaching for development; manages staff in accordance with department needs, company policies, practices, and initiatives

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational, managerial, and scientific skills; able to manage projects and problem solve

  • Completes work with accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.

Desired Qualifications and Experiences:

  • 15+ years' experience in biological, pharmaceutical, or medical device manufacturing
  • 10+ years' experience in management

Education, Licenses and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree scientific discipline: Advanced degree preferred

Physical Requirements for the Job:

  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Able to visit all areas of production facilities

Pay Range Data:

  • The pay range for this position is $106,600-$120,000 per year. Our pay ranges are determined by job responsibility and regional benchmarks. The wage listed is just one component of VMRD's total compensation package for employees.
