Job SummaryResponsible for overseeing and directing athletic training services for assigned sports programs, ensuring student-athlete health, readiness and rehabilitation while collaborating across the sports medicine and performance teams. Manages daily injury evaluation, treatment and recovery plans, supervises clinical staff and coordinates medical coverage for practices, games, camps and travel. Applies intermediate to advanced judgement in program development, staff oversight, compliance and integration of clinical operations into the broader athletics performance strategy.
All University of Kentucky Athletics Department employees are required to conduct themselves in accordance with the rules, regulations, and policies of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the College Sports Commission (CSC), the Southeastern Conference (SEC), the University and any other applicable regulatory body.
Leads the administration of athletic training care for assigned sports: evaluates, treats and rehabilitates student-athletes, generates and communicates daily injury reports and ensures 24-hour access as required.
Coordinates and schedules medical coverage for practices, competitions, summer camps and off-site events including travel logistics, equipment/supply movement and field set-up in conjunction with relevant staff.
Develops, implements and monitors individualized rehabilitation and prevention programs for student-athletes in alignment with team coaches and performance staff.
Supervises and mentors athletic training staff, oversees their assignments, ensures clinical case reviews and supports professional development and licensure compliance.
Maintains and monitors medical and performance equipment: oversees inventory, orders supplies, ensures modalities are calibrated/serviced and manages budget line items for capital and clinical goods.
Ensures medical records and documentation are accurately maintained, compliant with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)/Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and aligned with NCAA, conference and institutional policies including drugtesting programs.
Collaborates with team physicians, athletic training room clinical operations and performance staff to manage referrals, physician follow-up, student-athlete exams and integration into training/conditioning programs.
Leads ongoing professional development and education in current injury-management practices, treatment techniques and athletic training trends; maintains required certifications, state licensure and Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
Works collaboratively with sport coaches, athletic performance, strength & conditioning and medical teams to align training, rehabilitation and readiness protocols with broader athletic goals and strategic initiatives.

This position requires regular standing and walking during practices, competitions and training sessions; and intermittent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. It involves occasional risk of back injury while assisting athletes with rehabilitation or moving athletic equipment. The role requires frequent bending, reaching and repetitive movements associated with athletic training and treatment tasks, as well as intermittent computer-based work for documentation and reporting.
The position also includes regular travel for events and practices, intermittent exposure to temperature variations and occasional contact with bloodborne or airborne pathogens when providing emergency care.
