Job description

About us

One team. Global challenges. Infinite opportunities. At Viasat, we’re on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We’re looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.

What you'll do

Viasat is seeking a high-caliber Executive Assistant, based in Washington, DC, to provide comprehensive support to our Government Affairs & Regulatory leader and team and act as a critical liaison with others within and outside the company.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of global policy, regulation, government engagement and cutting-edge satellite technology, supporting senior leadership and a high-impact global team across multiple time zones. The pivotal role offers visibility, responsibility, and the chance to be a trusted partner in shaping global engagement strategies.

We are looking for someone who is poised and highly organized, and who thrives in a fast-paced environment, with excellent judgment, absolute discretion, exceptional communication skills and a positive, solutions-oriented mindset.  In addition to directly supporting the leaders, on a secondary basis this role will provide support to the broader Global Government Affairs & Regulatory team, helping ensure seamless execution of priorities across all regions and time zones.

Note the working situation will be onsite, based in Washington DC and in office at least 60% (3 days/week). Viasat embraces a flexible working arrangement.

The day-to-day
  • Strategic Calendar Management: Proactively managing heavy, complex, and frequently shifting global calendars, ensuring your executive is prepared for all engagements.
  • Global Travel & Logistics: Coordinate intricate international and domestic travel itineraries, including expense management, detailed itineraries, visas, and security considerations, often involving last-minute changes
  • Timely Prioritization of Demands:  Identifying conflicting demands and priorities, managing them where appropriate, while also identifying matters for resolution.
  • Trusted Liaison:
    • Ensuring effective communication and follow-through with both internal and external stakeholders
    • Serving as a professional point of contact for internal stakeholders, government officials, and regulatory bodies, handling sensitive and confidential information with absolute discretion and integrity.
  • Effective Editor: Drafting, editing, and proofreading correspondence, presentations, and briefing materials as needed.
  • Project Management:
    • Supporting the planning and execution of key engagements, such as meetings with government officials, participation in industry conferences, and internal leadership reviews.
    • Tracking action items, deadlines, and deliverables across the team to ensure accountability and timely execution.
    • Assisting in the coordinated preparation of briefing materials, presentations, advocacy materials and governmental filings, ensuring all documentation is accurate and polished.
  • Team Integration:
    • Facilitating collaboration within the Global Government Affairs & Regulatory team, managing logistics for team meetings, offsites, and special projects to drive organizational efficiency.
    • Supporting the on-boarding of new team members and coordinating efforts across the globe.

What you'll need
  • 5+ years of experience supporting senior executives in a fast-paced corporate environment, preferably in government affairs, regulatory, legal, technology, aerospace, telecommunications, or similarly complex global environments
  • You are poised, polished, professional, emotionally intelligent, highly organized, and resourceful, have excellent judgment, and understand the nuances of high-level logistics and the importance of seamless execution
  • You know when to operate independently and when to coordinate with your executive before you act
  • Proven track record in project management and organization, including event and travel coordination
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills, including a willingness and ability to use appropriate communications tools in a clear, timely and effective manner (e.g., phone vs. email vs. text)
  • Ability to evaluate identifiable factors and provide thoughtful recommendations rather than just waiting for instructions
  • Experience working with a geographically dispersed team
  • A desire to understand our business and the satellite industry
  • The ability to “read the room” and manage sensitive and confidential information with absolute discretion
  • A positive, solutions-oriented mindset, with excellent judgment and an ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment both independently and collaboratively
  • Detail-driven yet strategic — ability to manage minutiae while understanding broader priorities
  • Team-oriented — collaborative, supportive, and committed to collective success
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and executive calendaring and expense management tools.

What will help you on the job
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, political science or a related field

  • Experience with senior leaders in the field of government affairs, legal or politics
  • Ability to stay comfortable in a complex environment where priorities shift rapidly

  • Strong executive presence
  • Experience working across time zones and cultures
