Job description

The Construction Superintendent oversees and directs construction projects from conception to completion. This role manages field staff by making and reviewing work assignments, establishing priorities, coordinating activities, and resolving work problems to ensure projects meet all safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for project managers, architects, engineers, and inspectors.

  • Monitor construction progress to ensure work remains on schedule and within budget.

  • Review blueprints, specifications, and contract documents to identify discrepancies or code violations.

  • Conduct daily field inspections to verify compliance with plans and construction practices.

  • Schedule and manage all necessary inspections, approvals, and certifications with local agencies.

  • Attend project meetings to discuss contract requirements, progress, and dispute resolution.

  • Complete daily field reports, weekly safety paperwork, and three-week look-ahead schedules.

  • Manage on-site workforce productivity and supervise laborers and mechanics.

  • Enter daily timecard information to ensure accurate payroll processing.

  • Acquire necessary equipment and materials while monitoring stock levels to prevent delays.

  • Oversee on-site and off-site construction to monitor compliance with building and safety regulations.

  • Enforce OSHA and company safety standards through regular meetings and inspections.

  • Coordinate work between various trades to avoid scheduling conflicts and delays.

  • Select tools and materials while tracking inventory and equipment usage.

  • Analyze and mitigate project risks to minimize disruptions.

  • Maintain accurate records of manpower, materials, and change orders.

  • Assist field employees with construction tasks as needed to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a commercial construction superintendent or in a similar field leadership role.

  • Minimum 3 years experience as a Superintendent in Commercial Construction

  • Must have a valid Drivers License

  • Must have your own work vehicle (ideally truck or large van)

  • Extensive knowledge of commercial construction management processes, means, and methods.

  • Deep understanding of building products, relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards.

  • Familiarity with construction management software and daily reporting tools.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.

  • Strong leadership and human resources management skills.

  • Excellent time and project management abilities.

  • Current knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and compliance requirements.

  • Competency in conflict and crisis management.

  • High school diploma or equivalent; degree in construction management or engineering is preferred.
