Part-time Citizenship Exam Preparation Instructor


The 32BJ Training Fund is seeking qualified candidates for part-time Citizenship Exam Preparation instructors for classes taught in Waltham, MA.


About us:

SEIU 32BJ is a service union headquartered in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan that represents cleaners, maintenance workers, service staff, and security officers in the New York City area and nine other states on the East Coast. Our mission is to educate every member so that they have the tools they need to meet the challenges of a changing industry.

Who weโ€™re looking for:

  • Experienced, creative, dynamic teachers with good interpersonal skills who enjoy working in diverse linguistic and cultural settings
  • Teachers looking to empower immigrant workers through citizenship/civics and English language education

Responsibilities:

  • Provide integrated civics and ESL instruction to students at ahigh beginner to intermediate English level through a student-centered teaching approach
  • Plan and implement lesson plans that are aligned with the program curriculum and that incorporate the provided educational materials, including the adopted textbook and USCIS Citizenship study materials
  • Deliver citizenship content that incorporates the required reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills for the citizenship test, as well as English vocabulary and grammar skill development
  • Maintain and submit records of attendance
  • Maintain ongoing communication with supervisor
  • Participate in relevant professional development activities, as available

Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching ESL and US citizenship to adult learners preferred.
  • MA in TESOL, TESL, TEFL, or CELTA strongly preferred
  • Experience in designing and delivering student-centered instruction.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with students from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to use digital platforms to instruct, communicate, and record program data.

  • Compliance with current COVID-19 protocols of the organization
