Job description

Director of Global Meetings & Events

Jersey City, NJ | $150,000–$175,000 + 25–30% Bonus & Comprehensive Benefits | Hybrid – 2–3 Days in Office | 25–35% Travel

We’re partnering with a highly respected global organisation to appoint a Director of Global Meetings & Events to lead its enterprise-wide meetings and events function.

This is a significant leadership role with responsibility for an established team and a sophisticated portfolio spanning Board and executive meetings, high-touch stakeholder programmes and major multi-day conferences.

At the largest end of the portfolio, you’ll oversee flagship events for approximately 1,300–1,500 attendees, with seven-figure budgets, internationally recognised speakers, five-star hospitality and a truly white-glove approach to the attendee experience.

But this role is about much more than delivering exceptional events.

They’re looking for a strategic leader who can take an already strong team forward: someone who develops people, challenges thinking, brings greater use of data and technology to the function and can operate as a credible advisor to senior leadership.

The Role

  • Lead the strategy and future direction of the organisation’s meetings and events function.
  • Lead, mentor and develop an experienced events team, creating an environment where talented people can continue to grow and perform at their best.
  • Oversee a diverse portfolio ranging from intimate Board and executive programmes through to complex, multi-day conferences for 1,300–1,500 attendees.
  • Take strategic oversight of flagship events with seven-figure budgets, high-profile speakers and sophisticated hospitality requirements.
  • Partner closely with senior executives and Board-level stakeholders, advising on event strategy, design and attendee experience.
  • Ensure consistently exceptional delivery across five-star hotels, executive programmes and high-touch guest experiences.
  • Own significant event budgets, driving strong commercial decisions without compromising quality or experience.
  • Lead strategic relationships and negotiations with luxury hotel groups, DMCs, production agencies, technology providers and other key partners.
  • Establish meaningful KPIs and use data, attendee insight and post-event analysis to measure success and inform future strategy.
  • Drive innovation across event technology, processes and ways of working.
  • Maintain rigorous standards around contracts, risk management, contingency planning and operational delivery.
  • Travel domestically and internationally for key events, approximately 25–35%.

About You

This role requires someone who has already operated at significant scale. You’ll understand the complexity behind delivering a major multi-day event whilst being equally comfortable advising senior executives, developing your team and setting the longer-term direction of the function.

We’re looking for:

  • Significant senior-level experience within corporate meetings, conferences and events.
  • A strong track record of leading, mentoring and developing experienced events professionals.
  • Experience delivering sophisticated, multi-day events at significant scale – ideally 1,000+ attendees.
  • Proven ownership of seven-figure event budgets and complex supplier relationships.
  • Experience delivering for C-suite, Board or similarly senior audiences where service, discretion and attention to detail are critical.
  • Strong commercial and contract negotiation experience across hotels, venues, DMCs, production partners and other strategic suppliers.
  • The executive presence to influence senior stakeholders and confidently challenge thinking when required.
  • A strategic mindset combined with the ability to troubleshoot calmly when something unexpected happens.
  • Experience using data, KPIs and attendee insight to measure performance and continually improve event programmes.
  • Confidence with event technology and an interest in how new platforms and processes can improve both attendee experience and operational efficiency.
  • A genuine passion for people leadership – this is an established and capable team that needs an excellent leader, not simply an excellent event operator.

What’s on Offer

  • $150,000–$175,000 base salary, depending on experience.
  • Approximately 25–30% annual bonus.
  • Comprehensive benefits package.
  • Hybrid working, typically 2–3 days per week in the Jersey City office.
  • Approximately 25–35% domestic and international travel.
  • Leadership of an established and experienced events team.
  • Direct partnership with senior executives and Board-level stakeholders.
  • Ownership of a significant, high-profile global events portfolio.
  • Genuine scope to influence strategy, technology, measurement and the future direction of the function.

This is an opportunity for an accomplished events leader who has already delivered at scale but is looking for broader strategic ownership. You’ll inherit a strong team and an established events programme; the opportunity is to lead both forward, bringing exceptional people leadership, commercial judgement and fresh thinking to a function that has significant visibility across the organisation.
