About the Department:
The Dean's Office is the lead executive office for the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC). The College's central goals and strategies are developed within the office, which also serves as the primary conduit between the College and other executive-level offices within the University and with departments, programs, and centers within the College.
About the Position:
The George Mason University Dean's Office within the College of Engineering and Computing, seeks a proactive, organized, and self-reliant Administrative Assistant. Under the direction of the Manager, Administration and Strategic Projects, this position will work independently and in coordination for the execution of administrative, fiscal, event, and program support operations.
Responsibilities:
  • General front desk/administrative support;
  • Screens and routes phone inquiries;
  • Sorts mail and packages;
  • Greets visitors and arranges appointments;
  • Assists with ordering office supplies;
  • Assists with monthly reconciliation of foundation account;
  • Assists with CEC Dean's office event management, including meeting setup and breakdown; and
  • Primary point person for scheduling the college-managed conference rooms.
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Relevant experience in an office/administrative position;
  • Prior experience with financial reconciliations;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and strong organizational abilities;
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and anticipate and meet deadlines, while maintaining flexibility regarding changes in priorities;
  • Ability to work with a team or independently as needed; and
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite software, including e-mail, online meeting applications, word processing, and spreadsheets.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field;
  • Three years of relevant experience in office/administrative positions and/or events management;
  • Experience providing financial and administrative support in a higher education, government, or similarly complex organization; and
  • Knowledge of university procedures, policies, and regulations.
