Job description

Advises and counsels individuals who may include current students, prospective students, recent graduate students, and/or faculty and staff. Provides guidance in relation to careers and academic information. Acts as a liaison to various employee and student groups.

Master's Degree in a relevant area and three (3) years of Academic Advising experience in an educational setting.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.  We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 


Assists the Director in planning Center operations, clerical staff evaluations and supervision, and maintaining printable sources of information. Coordinates the Center's evaluation process (student feedback). 
Attends various committee meetings and job-related events. Gathers maintains and presents updated curriculum information for their assigned academic departments. Maintains awareness and knowledge of changes in academic requirements in policies and procedures. Contacts and consults with faculty and academic departments regarding student concerns. Participates in university activities/committees representing the Center.
Performs other duties as assigned. 
 

Advises and assists students in making informed, timely, and appropriate decisions regarding their academic major. Assists students in making decisions regarding late registrations, late drop/adds, overloads, and other matters. Makes critical decisions regarding student requests for course changes, course overloads, transfer credit requests, and late and retroactive deadlines. Advises students regarding strategies to maintain academic scholarships such as the HOPE. 
 

Assists Center Director by assuming administrative leadership and liaison roles, with new staff selection and training, and with management decisions. Represents the Academic Advising Center in the absence of the Director. Provides supervision and mentorship to new Academic Advising Center staff and graduate interns. 
Provides orientation services to students; and assists them in adjusting to new surroundings and academic demands. Articulates multiple options to new students and facilitates selection into programs such as Honors, Fresh Connections, ACAD, Student Support Services, and Study Abroad.
